What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a dedicated Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team and develop creative solutions to unique national security challenges!

In this role, you will provide technical expertise for a wide variety of projects involving the design of specialized firing systems, diagnostics and associated electromechanical systems as well as developing and researching firing system disablement techniques and technologies.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Plan, conceive, conduct, or manage research and development for Sandia’s sponsors in best-in-class lab facilities.
  • Use engineering principles to research, design, or develop, instruments, experiments, processes, systems, theories, or technologies: to construct or operate the same with full cognizance of their design.
  • Work in a field setting supporting and leading electronic and explosive testing.
  • Provide expertise, support, and lead field/lab activities with the purpose of educating and training mission partners on electronics, high voltage, arming and firing technologies, design techniques, and disablement methodologies.
  • Collaborate with our partners to implement current techniques and develop innovative ways to tackle the nation’s biggest challenges.
  • Demonstrate the ability to team across disciplines.

This position will require travel approximately 20% of the time.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, plus five(5) years of relevant experience. Or Master's degree Electrical Engineering, plus one (1) year of experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience with some of the following:
  • Nuclear weapon design principles and concepts.
  • High voltage firing systems and pulsed power design.
  • Proven electronic design and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work in an electrical lab environment.
  • Working directly with customers, government agencies, and/or military personnel to deliver product(s).
  • Field testing to include electrical, mechanical, and/or explosive operations.
  • Project management, to include defining requirements, planning, scheduling, and budget.
  • Demonstrated leaderships skills and the ability to lead a team.
  • Strong written and verbal skills and, detail oriented.
  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent

About Our Team:

The Arming and Firing Systems Department, 6635, serves the nation's need for innovation, research, design, development, maintenance and testing of arming and firing (A&F) systems. The department provides innovative design and development of specialized firing systems and associated electro-mechanical devices, provides specialized training including IED/IND/WMD render-safe, disable, and responder technologies, also provides arming and firing systems and training for nuclear and non-nuclear response forces. In doing so, we collaborate with multiple Sandia departments to ensure continued innovation and success to serve customers from DOE/NNSA, DoD, DOJ, DHS, and other government agencies via IHNS, DSA, and NW SMUs.
