What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an onsite Information Systems Architect to join our dynamic team. The selected candidate will be part of a capability-based team that that architects, develops, integrates, tests, and deploys large highly reliable mission critical systems. We have expertise in R&D and Information Technology across many disciplines including large-scale software engineering, computer science, and computer engineering.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related computer field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years, or more, of directly related experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Architecting IT solutions to address customer requests and meeting requirements for complexity, scalability, and availability of solutions;
  • Configuration, installation, maintenance, and administration of virtualized environments;
  • Reading, interpreting, writing, modifying, and executing scripts (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) on Windows or Unix systems;
  • Programming with Ansible or similar automation programming language;
  • Linux
  • Active DOE Q clearance or equivalent.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree in related STEM discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Computer Engineering)
  • Experience with the full software development lifecycle using iterative and/or agile methodologies
  • Experience with automation, orchestration, continuous integration/ continuous delivery including such tools as Ansible, Puppet, Docker, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Nexus, etc.
  • Experience applying Test Driven Development (TDD) principles and automated testing (e.g., Selenium, Cucumber, Gherkin)
  • Experience with common software architectures (e.g., microservices, distributed architecture models, etc.)
  • Experience with container technologies, using tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Experience with Linux server-based system administration. (e.g., account maintenance, data backups, system performance maintenance, installation and configuration of new hardware/software)
  • Experience with virtual machines and cloud technologies (e.g., Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare vSphere, Open Stack, AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Knowledge of computer networking fundamentals (e.g., networks devices, ports/protocols, addressing, routing, network access, identity, and access management, and authentication)

About Our Team:

The "System and Software Engineering Solutions" department is a capability based organization that architects, develops, integrates, tests, and deploys large highly reliable mission critical systems. We have expertise in R&D and Information Technology across many disciplines including large-scale software engineering, computer science, and computer engineering. Our specific capabilities include computer hardware/software architectures, system administration/networking, cyber security, failover/redundancy, continuous integration, system integration/verification, and performance assessment, automation, container orchestration, and cloud archectures. We bring to bear these capabilities to innovate high-rigor solutions while supporting existing critical customer needs. Responsibilities will include support for nonproliferation and national security missions for the US Nuclear Detonation Detection System.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance.
