Job Description

The Specialty Scheduling Coordinator is an experienced clerical staff member responsible for coordinating patient appointments involving multiple resources and/or complex record gathering (including records from external entities) to facilitate accurate scheduling. The coordinator is also responsible for follow-up including communicating with all stakeholders (verbally, written and electronically).

The Specialty Scheduling Coordinator is typically assigned to one or two specialty areas, for example: image-guided biopsies, stat radiology exams/procedures, Bone Marrow Transplants (including work-up procedures/preparations, caregiver education classes), infusion/chemotherapy and radiation procedures.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  •  2 years scheduling experience in a hospital or clinic with complex scheduling algorithms. 
  •  Oncology-related scheduling experience
  •  Experience scheduling with Cerner
  •  Experience scheduling surgeries or procedures using Cerner
  •  Demonstrated PC Competency of Microsoft Word, outlook windows environment
  •  Associate's Degree

 

Responsibilities:

  • Schedules and coordinates patient appointments requiring multiple resources and interdependencies.
  • Communicates with all stakeholders including patients in the manner preferred by each (email, report, phone, etc.). Obtains medical records as needed from outside providers.
  • Conducts "Prep" for clinic or department including the compilation of patient data and or documentation.
  • Follows up on errors and offers contributions and suggestions to improve current methods. Contributes innovative ideas to improve work practices and flow.
  • Trains and mentors new peers / team members

 

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years of scheduling experience in a hospital or clinic with complex scheduling algorithms.
