Job Description

The Data Science Learning Division at Argonne National Laboratory, DSL, seeks a Predoctoral Appointee to conduct research as part of a team on applying artificial intelligence techniques to develop laboratory control systems. This project focuses on applying state-of-the-art AI methods to data to transform hypotheses into a) human-readable detailed steps that can be executed in a lab and b) machine instructions that control laboratory instrumentation. Additionally, the project will develop techniques that provide a robust interpretation of the results extracted from such approaches.

Position Requirements

  • Recent Masters Degree and 0+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge of deep learning, large language models, and associated tools and libraries.
  • Skilled in techniques for creating and evaluating data embeddings.
  • Python programming.
  • Ability to summarize and present scientific and engineering results.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Effective collaborative skills, including working well with other labs, universities, computing centers, and industry.
  • Ability to keep abreast of advances in areas of interest, thereby enabling more effective interactions with researchers.
  • Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
