The Medical College of Georgia Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy has as its core mission the advancement of outstanding research and education. We work collaboratively to discover new knowledge through innovative biomedical research, to transmit that knowledge to students, and to train future researchers, educators, and health care professionals.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Business Operations Specialist to serve as a key member of the department's research management team. This position will be the primary point of contact for departmental grants. This includes, but is not limited to: submissions, compliance, audits, subcontracts, closeouts, transfers, renewals, and no-cost extensions. This position will also be the primary point of contact for departmental travel and will assist with lab closeouts, inventory, and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
The duties include but are not limited to:
GRANT MANAGEMENT: Serve as key member of the department's research management team, monitor compliance and audit activities. Work with Administrator on grant submissions/updates. Follow grants from submission to final reports. Prepare grant application documents according to agency requirements utilizing agency systems for submissions such as NIH, DoD, AHA, and others. Coordinate with other institutions to develop and submit subcontracts. Work with Administrator on annual financial/progress reports and budgets for submissions and awards. Submit through agency portals Proposal Central, eRA Commons, InfoEd, Department of Defense, and AHA. Prepare and submit grant closeout reports consistent with university and agency processes and timelines. Facilitate the transfer of grants or change of grantee across institutions to include equipment purchased, grantee application, working with Sponsored Programs, processing protocols with IRB, animal, biosafety, chemical safety & radiation safety, working with PI to determine changes in research objectives or facilities and resources. Communicate with PIs on updates/new requirements announced by funding agencies. Monitor renewals, no-cost extensions, and expiring projects. Maintain timeline for annual progress reports coordinating with project PI ensuring submissions deadlines are met.
LAB EQUIPMENT/CHEMICAL INVENTORY: Assist with lab closures, including but not limited to reassigning equipment and removal of chemical inventory items.
PROCESS DEPARTMENTAL TRAVEL: Process all travel requests/travel expense statements/etc. for faculty, students, and staff. Position does require the use of a P-Card for various travel-related expenses.
INVENTORY: Work with purchasing assistant and administrator on annual inventory; assist with surplus, moving services, and refreshes as requested.
OTHER: Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or related discipline with one year of administrative and/or management experience.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with two years of relevant experience.
OR
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization with three years of administrative and fiscal management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with three years of progressively responsible grant submission experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Knowledge of business operations (procurement, bookkeeping, asset management, human resources, etc.).
SKILLS
Excellent customer service skills.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; M-F (Work outside of the standard business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B10
Salary: $52,500.00/annually-$65,600.00/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

The Human Resources Division will request a driver's history report for the identified top candidate(s) for this position. We will initiate this through our Background Check Vendor; this report will come from the Department of Motor Vehicles. The selected candidate must have a valid driver's license.
