Job Summary
The Prospect Development Analyst supports Augusta University's fundraising strategy by providing high-quality research, portfolio insights, and data driven analysis that strengthen the donor pipeline and inform major gift strategy. This role blends prospect research, prospect management, and analytics to ensure development officers have the information, structure, and strategic support needed to advance prospects through the donor lifecycle. The Analyst plays a key role in identifying new prospects, maintaining portfolio health, ensuring data integrity, and generating actionable intelligence for development leadership. This position reports to the Director of Prospect Development.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Prospect Research, Analysis, Donor Intelligence & Writing
Provide in-depth research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using various biographical, organizational and financial tools and sources, including internet websites and other external repositories of public information.
Analyze and synthesize biographical, financial, professional, and philanthropic information to assess financial capacity, inclination, and affinity.
Interpret and translate complex financial, legal and corporate language into composed briefings using style, grammar and content appropriate to targeted audiences.
Ensure that prospect knowledge (ratings, philanthropic interests, and connections) acquired through research is recorded, preserved, and maintained in the donor database, is accessible to fundraising staff, and used to develop cultivation and solicitation strategies.
Monitor news, wealth events, and external data sources to surface emerging prospects and philanthropic trends.
Prospect Management & Portfolio Support
Assist with the development and maintenance of high-quality major gift portfolios by monitoring activity, stage movement, and prospect engagement.
Assist with prospect assignment processes, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and prospect management policies.
Assist with tracking and documenting prospect stage changes, assignment updates, and lifecycle movement in the donor database.
Segment wealth screening results into manageable groups of prospects for qualification assignment.
Provide preliminary research on prospects to support pipeline development, specifically those at the leadership annual giving level (estimated capacity between $10K-$20K).
Major Gift Prospect Identification
Proactively identify new major gift ($25K+) prospects through data mining, wealth screenings, predictive modeling, and engagement analytics.
Validate wealth screening results and ensure accurate integration into the donor database.
Identify creative, strategic methods to help development officers engage prospects.
Collaborate with Prospect Development colleagues to ensure newly identified prospects are appropriately assigned and tracked.
Other Duties
Work in a team environment with the PAE Operations team, development officers, annual giving, and alumni engagement to inform staff on prospect development methods and practices.
Participate and volunteer at PAE events and activities, as available.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Two or more years experience in prospect development or related field or 5 years overall professional experience.
Proficiency in Internet research.
Experience with information resources and on-line services (i.e. Google, or other database software).
Preferred Qualifications
Previous fundraising experience and/or a background in a nonprofit or educational institution.
Previous experience with Blackbaud suite of products, including Raisers Edge, NXT, Research Point and Fundraiser Performance Management.
Previous experience with Lexis-Nexis on-line research service is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
ABILITIES
Demonstrated analytical skills to initiate and perform complex analyses and organize information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations and foundations. Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial disclosure documents for the purposes of wealth assessment (SEC filings, real property files, financial and legal disclosures, etc.).
Ability to recall, recognize and communicate interrelated information pertaining to donors and prospects.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize work and independently manage multiple, various and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrated experience in prospect research, fundraising, library research or information related field preferably in a higher education environment. Knowledge of the range of resources available to prospect researchers and the ability to apply those resources in an organized and purposeful manner.
General fundraising knowledge, including proficiency at supporting and participating in prospect management and tracking processes and staying informed of trends in the field. Ability to acquire and retain knowledge of ethics statements by APRA and Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
SKILLS
Strong computer skills and demonstrated background in Internet-based research. Experience working with a relational database, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of products, including Excel. Ability to download and export information between systems.
Excellent oral and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy required to function effectively among campus fundraisers, high-level campus administrators, volunteers and other constituencies to bring large-scale projects to completion.
Ability to work in a team environment and to articulate complex information in a format which is comprehensible to a broad audience.
Strong project management skills and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a demanding environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with a wide variety of individuals and to respond flexibly and positively in difficult circumstances.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: B9
Salary Range: $48,800/annually - $61,000/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
