Job Description

Summary

In this role, the intern/aide will develop strong transcription accuracy and efficiency by working with complex audio recordings used in neuroscience research. The position provides hands-on training, with the successful candidate working closely with research staff to produce accurate, detailed digital representations of audio stimuli used in patient-facing neuroscience experiments. The intern will build competency in research-grade data preparation and file management, ensuring that datasets are well-structured, consistent, and suitable for downstream analysis.

The role involves supporting cross-disciplinary initiatives at the intersection of music, language, and neuroscience, fostering collaboration with diverse research teams. Responsibilities include reviewing selected audio files to prepare them for transcription, and creating detailed musical notation that captures melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics, articulation, and tempo using professional notation software. The intern will also produce high-quality digital sheet music aligned with research standards, convert and export notation files into analysis-ready formats (such as .xlsx, MIDI, and Python/MATLAB-compatible data), and maintain an organized digital archive linking transcriptions to their corresponding audio stimuli. Additionally, the intern will collaborate with data analysts and research staff to ensure that file formats, annotations, and outputs meet the technical requirements of downstream data processing pipelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.
