Job Description
The School of Nursing and Health Sciences at Indiana University East invites applicants for the position of Associate Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026, or as soon thereafter as possible. This is a 12-month appointment reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (EVCAA). Within the School there are 13 faculty members including professors, lecturers, and clinical faculty appointments.

The Associate Dean provides leadership to faculty, staff, and students within the School of Nursing & Health Sciences by promoting a collaborative learning and scholarly environment that emphasizes student engagement and success. The Associate Dean has administrative responsibility for all aspects of the School, including student recruitment, retention and success; faculty recruitment, professional development and evaluation; program development, assessment and improvement; budget management; fundraising efforts; and supporting the well-being and professional growth of its faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities and Authorities
The Associate Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences will serve as the chief nurse administrator as well as the chief academic and fiscal administrator for the School. Their responsibilities and authorities, which may be delegated as appropriate, include:
Develop and implement the student recruitment plan in coordination with the Office of Admissions.
Arrange, coordinate, and oversee academic advising for students pursuing programs within the School.
Certify that students meet graduation requirements for School programs as set forth by faculty and in coordination with the Office of the Registrar.
Schedule all credit and/or non-credit courses offered by the School, assign teaching responsibilities to all full-time and part-time faculty, and identify and hire adjunct faculty as needed.
Manage the School’s fiscal accounts, including both university and foundation accounts, in coordination with the Office of Administration and Finance.
Mentor new faculty in preparing professional development plans and support their progress toward promotion, tenure, or long-term contract as applicable.
Collaborate with full-time faculty to develop and advance the School’s research agenda and manage the allocation of faculty development funds to support scholarly activity.
Conduct annual performance evaluations of all full-time and part-time faculty as well as full-time staff, inviting active participation in the review process, and submit salary recommendations for full-time faculty and staff within the School.
Provide leadership in fostering a welcoming and supportive academic environment that promotes student engagement, access to educational opportunities, and success for all students.
Represent the School and/or campus on appropriate committees within the campus, the university, and the IU East service region.
Promote the School and its programs to the communities in the IU East service region.
Prepare and submit required reports, forms, and documentation as requested by campus leadership.
Oversee the quality of the curriculum in the degree programs of the School; lead the School in learning outcomes assessment.
Lead faculty in preparing academic programs for professional accreditation and external program reviews as applicable.
Collaborate with faculty and deans across the university to develop new academic programs as appropriate.
Take an active leadership role in School and/or campus alumni fundraising activities in coordination with the Office of Advancement.
Participate in student, faculty, staff and alumni events to promote the School’s academic, research, and civic engagement activities.
Attend meetings of the Deans’ Council and Academic Affairs Council as scheduled; schedule and lead monthly School meetings.
Organize, chair, and attend School advisory council meetings.
Provide advocacy for the School within the campus community.

Special Duties and Expectations
A primary responsibility of this position will include leading and implementing strategic modifications to School operations, including policies, practices, and curriculum, with the goal of increasing NCLEX test scores and overall program outcomes. An external consultant has completed a review of the School and provided recommendations. The Associate Dean will be responsible for implementing these recommendations.
The Associate Dean will serve as Director for the Indiana State Board of Nursing, which requires holding an Indiana RN license. In addition, the Associate Dean will participate in ACEN accreditation and complete required annual reports.
Basic Qualifications
Terminal degree in Nursing or a related field.
RN License
