PhysicalTherapists test muscle strength, the amount of flexibility in joints, and the ability to walk or move. Treatments include exercises to increase strength, range of motion, endurance, and coordination, the use of heat, cold, electricity, or even aquatics to relieve pain, and teaching exercises and body mechanics to avoid injury or regain function. Since this position requires physical interaction with patients, Physical Therapists are highly connected with patients and build stronger patient relationships than most other health sciences specialists. Often, physical therapy patients are dealing with pain, so sensitivity is important. Equally important is giving patients the drive and support they need to work hard and regain their health.
A caregiver in this position worksat Tradition Hospital,Monday - Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Evaluate and conduct medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs.
Interpret plans and supervise patient treatments in accordance with the physician referral, ensuring the care, safety and wellbeingof the patient.
Review and evaluate the patient's response or lack thereof to treatment.
Make recommendations to the physician relative tothe need to continue or discontinue physical therapy treatment.
Provide appropriate documentation of each patient visit inaccordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Be responsible for the maintenance andcare ofall equipment and apparatus.
Be responsible for the economicaluse of supplies, linens and utilities.
Provide appropriate billing for each patient visit in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Assistin on-the-job training of all ancillary personnel.
Provide support and advice to the child’s parents and teachers about every angle of their care that has to do with the physical therapy needs of the child.
Adjust communication patterns to the age and level of understanding of the child. This may sometimes includenon-verbal means of communication like sign language.
Attend meetings when neededto provide specialist advice as regards the functional needs of the child.
Plan further treatment and review the child’s general progress.
Work closely with doctors, family members, and teachers of the child by keeping them updated on their progress.
Assess the child for adaptations and use of specialist equipment when necessary.
Identifyareas of improvement in the entire procedure and help in managing adaptive changes in ways through which services arerenderedto the child.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s degree or certificate.
Graduate of a Physical Therapy program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association or related international degree.
Current state licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationthrough the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross.
Internship experience.
High levelof patience and tolerance.
Always at ease and friendly.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
