Job Summary
Our laboratory investigates the biology and targeted therapy of myeloid blood cancers, particularly myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The successful applicant will support students and postdoctoral fellows in the lab by conducting biochemistry, molecular biology, cell culture, and animal studies. Additional responsibilities may include ordering, keeping the lab clean and safety-compliant, preparing reagents and buffers, and managing day-to-day lab needs.

Essential Functions
1. Confers with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommends modifications as needed.
2. Performs tests and procedures using laboratory equipment.
3. Monitors and assists with purchasing of laboratory supplies and materials.
4. Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.
5. Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results.
6. Supervises the care of research animals; collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
7. Train new students and postdoctoral fellows
8. Doesn’t whine and complain about everything every single day but especially about commuting from Naperville

Problem Solving
This position assists senior laboratory personnel in planning methods and techniques. Work requires exercising independent judgment and basic theoretical knowledge of the applicable science. This position may include limited supervision of entry-level laboratory personnel, who may refer sensitive or unusual situations to the incumbent and/or the lab manager. If incumbent and/or lab manager cannot find a resolution, the situation is referred to the supervisor. Work is performed in accordance with the supervision of senior laboratory personnel and through periodic meetings with superior.

Office environment.
Often: Exposure to animals. Hazards (includes a variety of physical conditions, such as exposure to chemicals).

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting, bending, reaching overhead.
Minimum Qualifications
One year full-time laboratory experience or equivalency required (one year full-time lab equivalency equals successful completion of two semesters college laboratory course work); knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment and terminology as well as knowledge of chemical and physical properties of materials or substances and appropriate specimen handling techniques required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.
