Job Description

The Senior Manager of Patient Accounting Information Services leads a small team of business analysts responsible for enabling and enhancing the operational efficiency and effectiveness of the patient accounting department through technology solutions. This position is responsible for overseeing the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of technology solutions that support patient billing, collections, and financial reporting processes. The Senior Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including patient accounting, information services, and clinical operations to ensure seamless integration and functionality of systems that support patient care and financial operations.

Key responsibilities include maintaining and supporting applications, leading the evaluation and deployment of new technologies, managing vendor relationships, supporting associated training activities and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in healthcare finance and technology, with a proven track record of driving process improvements and delivering strategic initiatives. This role requires excellent collaboration skills, the ability to manage complex projects, and a commitment to enhancing the patient experience through efficient and accurate financial services.

  • Serves as the primary site team contact for revenue cycle systems across the broader enterprise teams and helps coordinate work, identify dependencies and establish priorities for the organization.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Financial Services leadership to develop and implement short- and long-term departmental goals aligned with Institute objectives.
  • Prioritize support and project activities across the team and develop action plans and track progress.
  • Manages day-to-day support, issue tracking, issue resolution and ad-reporting for the revenue cycle IS unit.
  • Identifies and resolves process, computer, and systems-related issues, including edits, hold bills, reports, and transmissions.
  • Create and modify Fundamental Data Language (FDL) code reports for processing.
  • Develops and manages project plans and coordinates resourcing for new applications and/or major upgrades.
  • Oversees user acceptance testing for bug fixes, enhancements and projects.
  • Ensures proper change management protocols are followed and in alignment with Institute and IS department policies and procedures.
  • Develops an understanding of various technologies to enhance business solutions; pursues and implements new IT technologies (AI, BOTs, etc.) to assist in meeting business objectives.
  • Analyzes and documents business and related technology workflows, policies and procedures.
  • Supports the business unit systems training program, ensuring the trainer(s) and training program are meeting requirements as set forth by the DFCI training department and the Business unit.
  • Analyze and document system design, application flow, and associated manual processes.
  • Oversee system maintenance and security, including database management and claim form edits.
  • Hire, supervise, and develop team members to achieve organizational goals and support career growth
  • Perform duties in accordance with all departmental, institutional, and regulatory policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for hiring and providing direct supervision of permanent and temporary staff.
  • Trains and develops staff and conducts annual performance evaluations for staff members in accordance with Institute guidelines.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 8 years related experience, including revenue cycle experience with healthcare finance systems required.
  • 3 years experience managing and directing staff in day to activities and responsibilities.
  • Prior project management experience required.
  • Epic certification(s) desired or must obtain Epic Certification as outlined by program requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Familiar with and adept at using PC applications, including Microsoft office suite, e.g.: Outlook, Teams, OneNote, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Basic understanding of healthcare operations and associated third party regulations.
  • Detailed experience and knowledge of the areas associated with patient financial systems and operations.
  • Effective at building and maintaining relationships with both internal and external business stakeholders.
  • Conveys strong technical skills and keeps current on industry standards and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Prepares and presents status reports, proposals and presentations as needed.
  • Initiative-taker with strong collaboration and leadership abilities to motivate staff and increase business unit productivity.
  • Outstanding project management and task priority setting abilities; ability to meet pre-determined deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to accurately translate business requirements into technical specifications for test scenarios, report writing needs or other system specifications.
