Job Summary
The Director, Classification & Compensation, is responsible for leading the organization's classification and compensation programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role will develop and manage policies, strategies, and frameworks for staff job classification, salary structures, and compensation programs to attract, retain, and motivate a high-performing workforce.
This position will be responsible for working with the Provost, Deans, and HR leadership to assist with data collection, reporting, and analysis related to faculty compensation.
The position will be responsible for working with Senior Leadership and HR to assist with data collection, reporting, and analysis related to executive compensation.
Responsibilities
Compensation Strategy & Program Management
-Develop and implement comprehensive classification and compensation programs aligned with organizational objectives.
-Design and maintain competitive salary structures, incentive programs, and pay policies.
-Conduct market analysis and benchmarking studies to ensure competitive compensation practices.
-Oversee the administration of salary adjustments, promotions, and job reclassifications.
-Partner with HR leadership to develop pay equity strategies and compliance initiatives.
-Lead requested compensation review processes.
-Advise senior management on compensation-related matters, including faculty and executive compensation strategies.
Job Classification & Evaluation
-Develop and maintain job classification frameworks to ensure consistency and equity across job roles.
-Conduct job evaluations and reclassifications to align with organizational needs and labor market trends.
-Collaborate with department heads to ensure accurate job descriptions and classifications.
-Manage the job analysis process, ensuring positions are classified correctly within the established pay structures.
Compliance & Governance
-Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, including FLSA, EEOC, and pay equity regulations.
-Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting classification and compensation and implement necessary adjustments.
-Develop and implement internal policies and procedures to ensure fair and transparent compensation practices.
-Conduct internal audits and evaluations to ensure policy adherence and regulatory compliance.
Leadership & Collaboration
-Serve as Functional Team lead for Position Management within the OneUSG Connect HRIS system or additional position management systems that may be implemented.
-Lead, mentor, and develop a team of compensation and classification professionals.
-Partner with HR Business Partners and Talent Acquisition to provide compensation guidance and support.
-Collaborate with Finance, Payroll, and Legal departments on compensation matters.
-Develop and deliver training sessions on compensation policies and best practices for managers and employees.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
A Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in compensation, classification, to include 3+ years of direct people management experience..
-Demonstrated knowledge of compensation methodologies, job evaluation, and market pricing.
-Experience with compensation software and HRIS systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
-Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or other relevant HR specific certification.
-Experience working in Higher Education
-Experience with faculty and/or executive compensation models.
