Job Description

The School of Plant and Environmental Sciences, at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA is recruiting for a lab and research technician to be part of the Virginia Tech Grain Crops team. Responsibilities include implementing corn and small grains variety trials across Virginia to conduct research to develop resilient crop varieties and sustainable management practices. Incumbent is part of a team in research and education efforts focused on soil fertility, plant nutrition, remote sensing, and precision agriculture driving innovation and excellence in crop management. Routine in-state travel in Virginia. Maintain & update research records, operating procedures, protocols. Assist in maintaining common lab/fieldwork supplies and equipment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, and/or a combination of education and related experience equivalent to a degree; Understanding of agronomic research methods; Hands-on field experience in crop, soil, agronomy;
Effective oral and written communication skills in English; Valid driver’s license and good driving record

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in a related field; Demonstrated experience with designing and conducting experiments in the field, greenhouse, and/or laboratory; Ability to operate field equipment (tractors, sprayers, combines)
