What Your Job Will Be Like:

Passionate about facilities? If so, you could be the Facilities Technologist we are seeking to join our team!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Perform collection, trending, and analysis of preventive maintenance data on rotating equipment throughout the SNL-NM campus.
  • Use ultrasonic, thermographic, oil analysis, and vibration analysis tools to diagnose failures before they impact operation.
  • Work with maintenance craft, engineers, planners, and management to prioritize and schedule equipment replacements.
  • Respond to failures and recommend corrective actions to management and other customers.
  • Perform equipment post-mortem analyses to determine root cause(s) of failure, and recommend changes in operating strategy, maintenance, or redesign to mitigate risk of future failures.
  • Participate in an operations and maintenance (O&M) analysis, such as Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) analysis, to assist in developing condition-based maintenance tasks with appropriate frequencies.
  • Lead and mentor trades in predictive maintenance data collection methods.
  • Successful candidate must be able to obtain the following certifications within the first 2 years of employment:
  • Vibration Analysis Level 1
  • Ultrasound Level 1
  • Infrared Thermography Level 1

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$60,300 - $116,000

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent plus five (5) years of experience troubleshooting & maintaining electro-mechanical systems and rotating equipment in an industrial, facilities, or military environment; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Must be able to acquire a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Associates degree or equivalent degree from a college or technical/trade school.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision & communicate effectively (written and verbally) with peers, management, and craft.
  • Demonstrated experience planning and completing predictive maintenance technology programs.
  • Certifications in Vibration Analysis, Ultrasound, and Infrared Thermography.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as Maximo for work order planning and scheduling, parts ordering, etc.
  • Experience with any of the following:
  • Mechanical drives & power transmission
  • Bearings & lubrication
  • Vibration analysis
  • Infrared thermography
  • Ultrasonic analysis
  • Shaft alignment
  • Electric motor troubleshooting
  • Operation and troubleshooting of rotating equipment such as compressors, pumps, blowers, gearboxes, chillers, and cooling towers.
  • Motion amplification
  • Oil analysis

About Our Team:

Department 4844, Mechanical Services, operates and provides preventive and corrective maintenance for mechanical systems associated with buildings at Sandia-NM. This department also provides heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) control, via the Facility Control System, to select buildings at Sandia-NM and Sandia-CA.

Posting Duration:

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
