Job Description

POSITION
The Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences (VIBS) in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (VMBS) at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applicants for a 9-month full-time, fully budgeted, tenure-track faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in reproductive biology and pregnancy. Areas of focus by the department’s more than 40 tenure track and academic professional track faculty broadly include anatomy, genetics and genomics, epidemiology, neuroscience, reproductive biology, science communication, and scholarship of teaching and learning. The department has a critical educational responsibility for teaching over 2,500 undergraduate and graduate students in the biomedical sciences, as well as more than 600 students in the DVM professional program. Additionally, the department houses master’s programs in Science & Technology Journalism and Veterinary Public Health & Epidemiology.

The successful applicant will join an existing group of highly collaborative and productive scientists working in the field of reproductive biology and pregnancy. Faculty members working in this area are distributed across VIBS, the department of Veterinary Physiology & Pharmacology within the VMBS, and the Department of Animal Science within the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences. These faculty members are also integral to the TAMU Interdisciplinary Faculty of Reproductive Biology (IFRB), a collaborative and nationally and internationally influential group of reproductive biologists consisting of faculty members from 9 departments, 4 colleges, and 2 system entities. Faculty members participating in the IFRB share resources for large animal and mouse models research, biological imaging, and analytical expertise. In the spirit of One Health, we seek an energetic individual who is applying innovative approaches to understanding pregnancy at the molecular, cellular, and physiological levels, with the goal of applying new knowledge towards clinical strategies to prevent pregnancy loss in livestock and women and ensure healthy offspring. Beyond the IFRB, broad collaborative opportunities are available, including the potential to work with clinical veterinarians within the VMBS, and members of interdisciplinary faculties in genetics, toxicology, environmental health, and neuroscience. Additional opportunities exist to establish research collaborations with VMBS faculty members located at the Veterinary Education, Research, and Outreach (VERO) campus in Canyon, Texas (https://vetmed.tamu.edu/vero/) and at the expanding Texas A&M Higher Education Center campus in McAllen, Texas (https://mcallen.tamu.edu/), located near the Texas-Mexico border.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a vigorous extramurally funded research program. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for supervising graduate students in the Physiology and Developmental Biology track within the Biomedical Sciences graduate program housed in the VMBS. They will also be expected to teach one or more graduate level courses in keeping with the candidate’s interests and departmental needs. Faculty members are expected to commit to holding themselves and colleagues accountable to the VMBS code of professional conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have a PhD degree in biological sciences and a track record of research excellence in the field of reproductive biology and pregnancy. Candidates for the rank of Assistant Professor must have strong potential for obtaining competitive extramural funding to support their research. Candidates for the rank of Associate Professor must have an established, extramurally funded research program. A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and evidence of potential for teaching and mentorship are also required.

SALARY Salary and start-up packages will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
