College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia's Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy is dedicated to understanding cellular function through state-of-the art research in areas such as autophagy and apoptosis, bone metabolism, developmental biology, molecular motors, dysphagia/swallowing disorders, exosome biology, renal disease, stem cell research, vision science (retina and cornea), and cell wounding. The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy has as its core mission the advancement of outstanding research and education. We work collaboratively to discover new knowledge through innovative biomedical research, to transmit that knowledge to students, and to train future researchers, educators, and health care professionals.
Job Summary
The AU-MCG Anatomical Donation Program services five of Augusta University's eleven colleges. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, this position will work closely with the other members of the Anatomical Donation Program team to ensure that all applicable laws and regulations are adhered to while providing exceptional customer service to donors, families, staff, students, faculty, and others.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
Embalm bodies for the AU-MCG Anatomical Donation Program. Provide continual care of bodies over the course of their time at AU-MCG. Prepare and maintain bodies for classes/courses Work with faculty, students, and staff across Augusta University as needed to assist with the fulfillment of the educational and research requirements of Augusta University's various colleges/programs/degrees. Communicate with medical provider(s) at time of death of donor. Gather information regarding decedent to initiate death certificate, burial transit permits, social security, and register in county of death. Assign case numbers and assist with maintenance of case number spreadsheet for bodies.
Take call when/as scheduled. Maintain and assemble informational packets regarding the donation program. Assist with annual memorial service, wrapping ceremony, class/course orientation. Assist with outreach initiatives.
Maintain dissection tables and materials/instruments. Maintain preparation room in accordance with applicable state laws. Assist with chemical and accessory item inventory used in embalming process (MSDS).
Cremation of cadavers. Maintain detailed log on all cremations to include, but not limited to: record case number, weight for EPD, and run time. Maintain communication with families regarding cremation, memorial service, etc.
Maintain all required professional licensure(s) and/or certification(s), including but not limited to annual continuing education for both GA and SC state licenses.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited Mortuary Science college or university Associate degree program and a minimum of five years of experience.
Other Required Qualifications
Certified Crematory Operator
Licensed embalmer
Preferred Qualifications
Licensed funeral director in GA or SC; Either license will suffice as long as the other license can be obtained through reciprocity.
Knowledge of:
Director's Assistant.
Excel, Box, & Outlook.
Augusta University Policies and Procedures regarding Anatomical Body Donation Program.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Experience in: Embalming, Cremation, Issuing or gathering information for the issuance of death certificates, and Transportation logistics.
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
ABILITIES
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Ability to gather, review, and analyze data.
Ability to work independently, multitask, and manage frequent interruptions.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required).
Salary Minimum: $56,600 annually.
Pay Band: B11
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
