Job Summary
The Augusta University/University of Georgia (AU/UGA) Medical Partnership, a regional campus of the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) located in Athens, GA, is seeking a Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs. The Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and oversight of all student affairs at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership, including career and academic advising, student interest groups, and para-curricular activities. The role supports bolstering the recruitment and matriculation of highly sought-after applicants and contributes to students' retention and graduation from medical school.
The Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs has the unique opportunity to transition into the permanent UGA School of Medicine Associate Dean for Student Affairs role as it becomes an independent medical school in 2026. This pivotal position offers a dynamic leadership experience in a collaborative environment with the chance to create impactful student programs and be part of an exciting new chapter in medical education at UGA.
The Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership and works collaboratively with other campus leadership and faculty, the MCG Office of Student Affairs at the main campus in Augusta, GA, as well as the UGA Office of Student Affairs. The Campus Associate Dean for Student Affairs works to provide a welcoming and supportive environment. They are expected to devote particular attention to the experiences of all students both inside the classroom and extracurricular, including academic advising and serving as a student advocate and resource. This position is open to the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor and does not meet the qualifications to be considered on tenure track.
Responsibilities
Some key responsibilities include:
Student Support & Advocacy:
- Serve as the primary advocate for students, addressing their needs and concerns while providing guidance on academic, personal, and professional matters.
- Facilitate open communication between students, faculty, and administration, ensuring students feel supported throughout their education.
- Provide oversight of student advising, mentoring, and career counseling programs.
Student Wellness & Well-Being:
- Develop and oversee wellness initiatives to enhance the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of medical students.
- Collaborate with university and community resources to provide comprehensive support services for students in need, including counseling and health services.
- Advocate for policies and practices that promote fairness in all aspects of student affairs and supports students from various backgrounds.
Student Leadership & Professional Development:
- Oversee student participation in professional organizations, leadership opportunities, and community engagement activities.
- Foster initiatives that promote student involvement in research, advocacy, and medical education.
Student Engagement & Activities:
- Supervise and support student organizations, clubs, and societies, fostering an active and engaged student community.
- Organize events and programs that enhance student life, including orientation, career development workshops, and graduation ceremonies.
Academic & Career Support:
- Collaborate with academic deans and faculty to ensure alignment of student affairs with the educational goals of the medical school.
- Provide career guidance, oversee the residency application process, and support students in their pursuit of residency positions.
- Working closely with the Academic Success Program, monitor student progress, offering remediation and support for those encountering academic challenges.
Compliance & Accreditation:
- Ensure compliance with institutional, regional, and national accreditation standards related to student affairs.
- Lead continuous quality improvement efforts for student services in collaboration with the office of continuous quality improvement.
Leadership:
- Participate on the AU/UGA Medical Partnership's Senior Leadership Team.
- Lead an office whose goal is wrap-around support of medical students.
- Provide support for the AU/UGA Medical Partnership Student Government and Honor Council.
Other:
- Contribute to the teaching, scholarship, and service needs of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership where appropriate.
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- MD, PhD, or EdD in a relevant field
- Board certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties (when appropriate)
- Ability to obtain an unrestricted medical license in the state of Georgia and to obtain appropriate hospital credentials and privileges (when appropriate)
- Ability to obtain an unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration license (when appropriate)
- A minimum of five years' experience in student affairs or a similar role in a higher education setting, preferably within a medical school or health sciences
- A strong understanding of medical education, student wellness, and professional development
- A strong understanding of NRMP, ERAS, MSPE, and LCME guidelines and requirements
- Knowledge of current residency program requirements for successful matching
- History of successful supervisory and management experience

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

Augusta University and University of Georgia have partnered to create a four-year medical education program in Athens, GA, to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians. The AU/UGA Medical Partnership combines the significant instructional and research resources of University of Georgia, the flagship land grant research university, with the expertise of the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, Georgia's only public medical school.
