Job Summary
Reporting to the Vice President for Development, the Assistant Vice President for Philanthropy, Operations will lead strategic and tactical planning, priority setting, and decision-making for major philanthropy operations and strategies projects and initiatives. The AVP provides supervision and direction to team members furthering the mission of Augusta University through the goals of the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement (PAE) division. Leads the overall strategy for Philanthropy Operations, Research, Analytics/Reporting, Data Quality, Donor Engagement, Philanthropy Communications and Prospect Management. Works closely with all levels of staff, including senior management, in PAE and the university. Supports the Vice President for Development with all operational matters as assigned. The AVP will set a clear vision engendering a compelling case for support by setting clear goals which align with the institution's strategic plans. The AVP works in collaboration with members of the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Senior Leadership team to recommend appropriate courses of action to demonstrate and sustain a culture of service and business support to enhance engagement and philanthropic giving to the University.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP: Provides overall direction to all areas of Philanthropy Operations including Prospect Development, Information & Data Services, Donor Engagement, and Philanthropy Communications to ensure accountability for results and conformance to university policy and procedures. Creates a vision, set aspirational team and department goals, and develop a high performing team that effectively provides the organizational infrastructure that supports and maintains a best-in-class university philanthropy and alumni engagement program. Works closely with the Vice President for Development and AVP for Campaign Planning and Central Teams to support campaign strategy and campaign goal setting. Serves as a thought partner to the most senior members of the philanthropy and university foundations teams on philanthropy services, donor engagement, donor communications and prospect and donor strategies. Collaborates with PAE senior leadership to set strategic goals, monitors performance and evaluates results to ensure that the units goals are met and in line with AU's overall vision. Facilitates inter-departmental partnerships to achieve full divisional alignment, and long-term, collaborative relationships with key university colleagues including with the AU Information Technology team.
PROSPECT RESEARCH & MOVES MANAGEMENT: Provides strategic direction and support to the leader of Prospect Development to optimize the identification and dissemination of prospective donors to gift officers to expedite growth in major and principal giving. The PD team actively monitors and assists in the management of gift officer portfolios, to guide relationship management and ensure gift strategies are moving forward. Work with the PD team to develop PAE's analytics practice, both through the acquisition of and in-house development of custom models and scores. Establishes and maintains turnaround and quality control standards for research-specific materials and communications produced by the department. Reviews high level materials for accuracy, content, presentation and consistency with departmental standards. Develops particular knowledge about AU and its programs, projects, personnel and initiatives. Proactively monitors and prepares for key initiatives and events that would benefit from research analysis and briefing materials. Responsible for acquiring and implementing systems that provide wealth data and a moves management process to enhance fundraising goals.
INFORMATION AND DATA SERVICES: Provides strategic direction and support to the leader of the Information and Data Services team, which carries overall responsibility for all PAE technology systems and data, including the donor database, volunteer/donor platform(s), PAE reporting tools, online community, document imaging system, and other associated software. Ensure PAE has a long-range plan for strategic investments in technology and business solutions to position it as a leader in Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement information services. Serves as the internal leader of a data-driven culture. Oversees the development and execution of reports for tracking and reporting on new commitments, projecting fundraising performance, assessing engagement, and other business needs. Works with information and data services team to build data mining and data modeling capacity and accelerate the availability of prospective donor assessments, model outcomes, and other data to inform solicitation and engagement strategies, utilizing both proprietary and commercial data for internal decision-making. Provides training resources, system applications, and user resources to professionals at PAE for the university's CRM software to ensure the effective usage of this software. Conceptualizes and implements a scalable suite of reporting tools and products for management information data-informed decision-making for use by the VP, executive officers, deans, school philanthropy officers, and PAE staff in a campaign environment - counting for gifts and pledges, measures of donor engagement, estimates of and philanthropic capacity, campaign and other budget performance, and other tools needed for PAE staff. Standardizes IT reporting by developing a system to accurately review, analysis, and document reporting criteria for all Philanthropy & Alumni Engagement fund raising reports. Responsible for integrity, compliance, and audit of system data.
DONOR ENGAGEMENT: Provides strategic direction and support to the leader of the Donor Engagement team, overseeing the execution of a strategic and comprehensive major donor stewardship program, to include donor recognition, acknowledgments, endowment and stewardship reporting, and curated donor events and experiences. Works collaboratively with university Foundations, Finance & Accounting and other fiscal leaders across campus to ensure philanthropic contributions are utilized and spent in accordance with donor intent.
PHILANTHROPY COMMUNICATIONS: Provides strategic direction and support to the leader of the Philanthropy Communications team, overseeing the execution of a strategic and comprehensive donor communications strategy, to include case statements, donor proposals, newsletters, web copy, fundraising event support materials, leadership talking points, etc. Works collaboratively with university communications and marketing and other communications leaders across campus to ensure philanthropic communications are aligned with university marketing and communications standards.
OTHER DUTIES: Monitors and participates in relevant listserves, publications and professional groups to maintain a strong knowledge of developments in the field of development operations and related functions. Identify and attend relevant meetings, conferences, and related training opportunities of vendors and professional organizations. Perform all other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of ten years of experience in higher education or non-profit organization, specifically, experience in personally identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding private philanthropic gifts.
Other Required Qualifications
Eight to ten years managing and/or using Raisers' Edge NXT or similar donor CRM system is required.
Demonstrated success in change management in a large, complex nonprofit environment
Experience in supervising or collaborating with both technical and non-technical peers.
Must have in-depth knowledge and experience working with Advancement systems.
Must have in-depth knowledge of and demonstrated experience with reporting applications and languages.
Must have experience with strategic prospect management planning.
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of CASE standards and Advancement Services best practices is preferred.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree is a plus.
Preferred Experience
Eight to ten years' experience in Advancement/Development/Philanthropy Operations, Alumni Relations and/or Development; within higher education preferred.
Experience with the standards and regulations governing gift/donor records, data privacy and security and prospect management is preferred.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Pay Band: B19
Salary Minimum: $144,800 - $175,000
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
