Job Summary
This recruitment will be used to fill two full-time Biological Sciences Research Technician 1 positions for the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position will sit under the Linus Pauling Institute of Oregon State University with a purpose to provide laboratory support to larger research project involving studying molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate brain aging, .

In this position the Bio Science Research Technician will assist research faculty using C. elegans as a model organism to study how glia-neuron interactions evolve with age, in disease, and under environmental stressors. The Research Technician will focus on C. elegans research, including organism maintenance, cloning, genetic manipulation, imaging, and general lab upkeep. Previous experience with C. elegans and/or microscopy is not required but is preferred.

Key Responsibilities
Position Duties
Laboratory Tasks and Maintenance (50%)
Assist with setting up the new lab and be responsible for nematode strains management, media preparation, purchases, chemical inventory organization, documentation, and general organization of the lab.

C. elegans Genetic Crosses and Experiments (25%)
Perform genetic crosses and assist with experiments, including managing and documenting experimental strains.

Molecular Biology and Cloning (10%)
Perform molecular biology tasks such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, and microinjections. Prepare reagents and organize samples for experiments.

Imaging and Data Collection 5%)
Imaging C. elegans using confocal microscope, including collecting and processing data.

Data Entry and Record Keeping (10%)
Maintain accurate documentation of experimental procedures, data, and results in lab notebooks or digital systems. Present updates at lab meetings.
What We Require
Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science); OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Two years of college-level courses in (Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or related field); OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional:
Ability to maintain careful and detailed records of experiments and procedures.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with lab members, co-workers, and faculty to foster a safe, respectful, kind, inclusive, and equitable environment that values diversity and promotes belonging

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months
What We Would Like You to Have
Experience with C. elegans research or maintenance.
Familiarity with molecular biology, cloning, and genetic techniques.
Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Experience with microscopy and imaging techniques.
Proficient computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite, GraphPad Prism).
