Ball State University Libraries is seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative team member to join our Access Services team in the role of User Experience Manager. This position will develop and lead a team of committed staff who provide excellent customer service at two service points in our main library and serve as a resource for circulation and user services issues. Job Function:

Manage the operations and personnel in Access Services to promote user access to collections and services; serve as a resource for other library circulation sites; provide service to library users and communicate related policies and procedures to the public; support an inclusive, diverse, and collaborative work environment and service culture to advance the strategic direction of the University Libraries

Minimum Education:

Master’s degree in library and information science or related field from an accredited university by date of hire.

Preferred Education:

Master’s degree in related field.

Minimum Experience:

At least three years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Experience:

At least one year of supervisory experience in a library setting; experience in library public service; experience providing library reference services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage the everyday operations, services, equipment and personnel of the circulation and information services operations; provide vision and strategy to promote user access to collections and services, including serving as a primary point of contact for patron conduct issues and other building issues and ensuring that signage and documentation relative to library services and resources are up-to-date throughout the building.
  • Assign and review work, orient and train staff, and make recommendations in all areas related to supervision, including but not limited to interviewing and selection, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal, and training and career development of personnel.
  • Provide circulation and information services to library users; field general purpose and reference questions about Libraries services and resources; refer users to colleagues for assistance as appropriate; provide assistance in the use of print and electronic resources.
  • Provide leadership in developing and interpreting circulation policies and procedures; communicate about circulation matters with faculty, students, staff, and other offices on campus; oversee training for desk supervisors relative to the policies and procedures of Access Services.
  • Interpret, analyze, and evaluate procedures, processes, data and staffing patterns for the Bracken Library Information Desk; serve as resource person for all Libraries circulation sites; make recommendations for solving problems and for identifying potential opportunities to the Head of Access Services and Open Education.
  • Monitor the functioning of the University Libraries integrated library system (Alma); serve as resource for monitoring, analyzing, and correcting reports for Library Data and Discovery Solutions and for maintaining the integrity of patron and circulation record databases; report problems to the Head of Access Services and Open Education and Library Data and Discovery Solutions.
  • Stay current on changes to Alma, deliver training to staff on changes and upgrades to the system; oversee user records and accounts in Alma, including issuing resident/affiliate and alumni cards.
  • Train and monitor student assistants in the performance of area work assignments and job duties.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
