Job Description

The Assistant Dean for the CRNA Program serves on the OU CON Academic Affairs leadership team and the CON Dean’s Council and supports the Dean in the administrative operation of the CRNA program. The Assistant Dean is responsible for collaborating closely with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to manage clinical partnership development, day-to-day operations, accreditation processes, academic program assessment, strategic planning, off-site activity management, special programs, and recruitment of adjunct/limited term faculty in collaboration with Department Chairs, program directors, and clinical coordinators. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will collaborate with the other Assistant Deans, Associate Deans, Department Chairs, and the Executive Director for Student Affairs to further the mission of the College of Nursing. 

Appointment:

The Assistant Dean dually reports to the Dean through the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

This position carries approximately 50% administrative release time; release time is negotiated annually with the Dean based on the demands of the role and needs of the OU CON.

 Responsibilities:

  • Teaching/Learning: Collaborate in the implementation of the OU CON CRNA curricula, ensuring rapid and convenient access to nursing education, electronically or face-to-face. In collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator, Program Director, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, identify, seek and obtain or contract for instructional resources and clinical learning sites. Oversee acquisition of space for teaching and collaborate with the Clinical Coordinator for clinical placement. Implement academic and educational policies in collaboration with the Office for Academic Affairs and the Office for Student Affairs.
  • Student Support: Collaborate in the orientation of Student Affairs staff to ensure delivery of advising, tutoring, and special student initiatives within the CRNA program. Assist the Executive Director of Student Affairs with the recruitment, advisement, admission, and enrollment of College of Nursing students across sites as needed. Cooperate with Department Chairs, Academic Affairs, and Student Affairs to ensure an excellent student experience that prepares graduates to succeed in meeting their life and career goals, consistent with student experience.
  • Operations: Collaborate with Program Directors, Executive Director for Student Affairs,  Department Chairs, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Dean to support budgetary, space planning, facilities maintenance, strategic planning,  and information management for the CRNA program; and negotiate contracts with outside health care or educational agencies as necessary to ensure appropriate clinical teaching in collaboration with the Clinical Coordinator and Program Director. Monitor nursing education and nursing workforce trends that will impact CON CRNA Program and make recommendations to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Executive Director of Student Affairs, and Dean.
  • University and Campus Relations: Represent faculty and students at college, campus, or University levels related to CRNA Program.
  • Community Relations: Serve as a liaison between OU College of Nursing and CRNA community of interest including CRNAs, anesthesiologists, clinical agencies, and professional groups to promote interests of the OU College of Nursing for mutual benefit. Cooperate in the development and implementation of College of Nursing education, research, and practice marketing plans to enhance the on-campus and off-campus visibility of OU Nursing. Facilitate alumni relations in concert with the OU CON Office for External and Alumni Affairs.

 

Licensure: Eligible for or hold current registered nurse license for the State of Oklahoma is preferred. Unlicensed faculty may not teach undergraduate and graduate clinical nursing courses.

Education: Graduate degree in Nursing and Terminal Degree in Nursing, Health, Science, or Social Science Related Field preferred. Faculty teaching in the PhD Program must meet the HSC Graduate College faculty appointment guidelines for    Associate Member or Full Member Appointment at level 3 or 4 authority.

Experience:

  • 2 years of clinical practice experience for licensed applicants required
  • Faculty teaching in advanced practice programs (NP, CNS or CRNA) must hold appropriate specialty certification and have a minimum of one year of advanced practice registered nurse experience in the specialty.
  • 2 years of higher education teaching preferred
  • A record of scholarship and extramural funding preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to be engaging and persuasive with strong teamwork skills, politically astute, diplomatic, and able to manage by influence.
  • Flexible and capable of responding to multiple demands in a time-sensitive manner
  • Ability to exercise astute judgment in all matters related to academic affairs
  • Proficient with MS Office applications, learning management software, and other technology used in teaching, research and practice.
