Job Description

Position Summary
The Department of Information Technology at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its IT Technician position.
Qualifications
Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Technology or a related field is preferred.
Minimum Required Experience
Experience with Microsoft Active Directory preferred.
Two (2) years equivalent work experience in IT Support preferred.
Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications
CompTIA A+ Certification required.
MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) Certification preferred.
Network + Certification preferred.
Security + Certification preferred.
Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, printers, wireless access points, and networking equipment.
Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems (Windows 7 and above; Windows Server 2008 & above).
Knowledge of Apple Products (iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air).
Strong writing and documentation skills.
Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, with a focus on rapport-building, listening and question skills.
Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-volume/high­-pressure environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Perform hands-on fixes, including installing/upgrading software, installing hardware, and configuring systems, also via remote access.
Perform preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of computers, laptops, printers and peripherals.
Setup new user domain accounts, image and configure new computers and laptops.
Support users in the use of computer equipment by providing necessary training.
Solve technical issues using existing knowledge of key technologies and methodical troubleshooting.
Coordinate warranty repair with approved vendors/partners.
Test fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved.
Perform post-resolution follow-ups to service requests.
Document all pertinent identification information, including name, location, contact information, and nature of problem or issues in our Help Desk Tracking System.
Document what actions were taken through to the final resolution.
Perform other duties as assigned to achieve customer service satisfaction.
