What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a High-Risk Embedded Security Professional to join Sandia’s Field Intelligence Element team. This candidate help Develop and implement security controls for the Special Access Program (SAP), Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and IC programs. This position can also serve as an Embedded Security Professional within a mission program and work closely with program personnel to support, develop and implement best security practices. On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Partner with other security professionals and will team with technical experts within the mission programs to proactively reduce the risk of safeguard and security events.
  • Interpret information, provide oversight of security requirements, and will perform a full range of security functions for the mission program/project, such as identifying risks and recommending appropriate security measures.
  • Conducting vulnerability analyses for program protection efforts, including identifying critical program information and evaluating and implementing mitigation strategies resulting in technical countermeasures.
  • Work on classified computer network security, secure data storage, Operations Security (OPSEC), and counterintelligence activities.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to Sandia National Laboratories’ executive management, program management, and to multiple government entities.
  • Partner with Deployed Security Professionals/Coordinators to provide a holistic approach for managing and mitigating S&S risks across the facility, division/centers, and programs customers.
  • Ensure that assessments are conducted, corrective actions are completed on time, and all necessary documentation is developed and maintained.

Due to the nature of the work, this candidate must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$97,500 - $187,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree is relevant field, plus 5 years’ experience. (AS + 9 and no degree + 13)
  • Experience with one or more major security areas, such as classified matter protection and control, classification, personnel security, physical security, program security
  • Experience with operational processes and security standards
  • Experience in security incidents
  • Abiltiy to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Knowledge of government communication security (COMSEC) to include various cryptographic equipment, keying material, and associated systems.
  • Classified hardware tracking, disposition, sanitization, destruction, and transport.
  • Knowledge of Sandia’s security policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to clearly present information, both verbally and in writing, to customers within the counterintelligence and intelligence communities.
  • Experience investigating and identifying noncompliance with security requirements.
  • Experience properly handling, protecting, and controlling classified material, and knowledge of widely varying classified material policies and procedures.
  • Experience marking classified documents.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills, and excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities.
  • Experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternatives, and recommending solutions to problems affecting security.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to create effective relationships.
  • Maintain current knowledge of security standards and technology, encompassing multiple security disciplines.

  • Interview, causal analysis, and conduct of inquiry skills.

About Our Team:

Sandia Field Intelligence Element (FIE) is the support organization and strategic partner enbabling the various government programs to solve the most challenging national security problems. The Sandia FIE security consists of physical security, cyber security, program security, special security office and information technology for the New Mexico, California and Minnesota sites.

Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
