College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine, and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
Job Summary
Job Posting Refresh A Standardized Participant (SP) is an individual trained to portray a patient, family member, health care team member, etc. He/she will be employed for purposes of training and/or assessing health care professionals (e.g. medical students, residents. and nurses). An SP must be able to follow directions in achieving the portrayal, be highly dependable in their work, including punctuality. Must be responsible about keeping track of scheduled workdays. Must be able to portray a person other than him or herself effectively and consistently in a standardized way.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Follow the rules and procedures for the exam. Must be willing to receive instructions for needs of the program. Recall actions and dialogue that may have occurred during an interaction with the trainee. Provide feedback to learners in a constructive manner as coached. Accurately and consistently completes Communications Skills, History, and Physical checklists indicating areas addressed or not addressed by the learner during the scenario assessment. Participate with learner in mock interview, counseling, and/or physical examination. Simulate all aspects of each clinical scenario including a patient's appearance, demeanor and affect, communication style, chief complaint, past medical history, and physical findings. Know the history of the presenting illness, past medical history, physical exam results as well as their body language, emotional state and personality. Will have to wear a hospital gown with only undergarments underneath, while on camera and/or observed live through an observation window or video monitor. Must be comfortable with a physical examination of SP's entire body by health care professionals, along with repeated physical examination maneuvers performed on self. Must be objective when interacting with and rating examinees of all backgrounds. Must be willing to work a varied schedule. Perform all other related duties/tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a State or Federal accrediting organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a standardized patient, a health professional, an instructor or relatable work in this field.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases. Must be able to provide constructive feedback and communicate articulately. Must be able to observe and remember learners' behavior for accurately evaluating their competencies.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This is a part-time position equaling 19.60 hours per week and the possibility of a varied scheduleShift: Days/M-F; Must be willing to work a varied schedule, maximum of 19.60 hours a week.
Salary Minimum (Min-Mid or list up to the budgeted amount which should not be more than the midpoint).
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
