The Medical College of Georgia's Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. The selected candidate needs to be a board certified/board eligible, fellowship-trained Sports Medicine physician interested in joining a busy, established faculty practice in Augusta, GA. Together with colleagues, the candidate will be responsible for the overall clinical care of adults and children in an ambulatory clinic setting. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.
Given the vision and mission of the Medical College of Georgia, the candidate should have an interest in education and research.
Responsibilities
Patient Care
-Mixture of seeing private patients and precepting residents
Teaching/Instruction
-UME Instruction
-Provide clinical care for a panel of patients (panel size will be based on cFTE)
-Precept residents in the Family Medicine Center
-Provide clinical education to medical students in the Family Medicine Center
-Provide didactic education to medical students and residents periodically
-Participate in the creation of scholarly activity
Required Qualifications
MD or DO. Completion of an ACGME or AOA accredited Family Medicine Residency Program. CAQ in Sports Medicine. Board certified (or board-eligible) and completion of a Family Medicine Sports Medicine Fellowship; eligible for licensure in Georgia and credentialing at MCG's partner Academic Medical Center.

Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years or more teaching as a family medicine faculty
- Understanding of working in a medical setting as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Familiarity with ACGME requirements for a Family Medicine Residency Program and a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship
- Understand the basic principle of student evaluation and grading
- Computer and electronic health record
- Work independently and seek consultation as necessary

Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia, one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to nearly 600 residents and fellows in 51 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs.
Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
The DFCM has an ACGME accredited Allopathic Family Medicine Residency Program, additional residency Osteopathic Recognition from the ACGME, and an ACGME accredited Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship. In 2023-24, will open a Rural Medicine Fellowship with plans for a Geriatric Fellowship and an Addiction Medicine Fellowship to follow in the near future.
Clinical teaching and services occur concurrently in the Family Medicine Center (FMC) and at Wellstar MCG Health as well as other affiliated local and regional clinical sites. DFCM also runs a community-based clinic in South Augusta as a teaching site and provides medical coverage for a free medical clinic in the Harrisburg neighborhood of Augusta.
