Job Profile Summary

This administrative position serves as a senior campus officer reporting to the Vice President of Student Services. This position is responsible for shaping the campus student experience and provides direct oversight of Admissions and Registration, Seahawk Outreach Services (SOS), and Academic Advising. Furthermore, the Dean of Student Services shares responsibility for the leadership of campus-based Student Financial Services and Student Life, along with the district leaders of those departments. This position collaborates with leaders across the college to design and implement effective and efficient Student Services policies and processes in support of student achievement, student engagement, and civic responsibility. The Dean of Student Services for the South Campus also serves as the Ombudsperson for the College and works in partnership with Academic Affairs and Campus Safety to provide a safe environment for student learning. The incumbent also serves as the Chief Student Conduct Officer for the campus.

  

Minimum Education:

  • Master’s degree required in Higher Education, Counseling, or related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Minimum Experience/Training:

  • Seven years of progressive administrative or managerial experience.
  • At least five years of direct working knowledge and progressive years in providing leadership to academic advising.

Essential Functions:

  • Daily -25%: Provides leadership, supervision, and evaluation of division programs and services, and full-time professional and paraprofessional department staff; including, but not limited to, the professional development of the staff and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives. Leads the execution of Student Services practices designed to enhance the effectiveness of service delivery and provide support of the college's mission and college wide goals and initiatives.
  • Daily -15%: Investigates, reports on, and assists in the resolution of student, faculty, staff or community complaints and incidents. Participates in behavioral intervention and threat assessment protocols. Maintains a safe and effective learning environment through conflict mediation, student counseling, and in consultation with campus safety, law enforcement, and mental health professionals.
  • Weekly -10%: Develops and manages the Campus and Pathways Learning Community Student Services budget; including, but not limited to, the authorization of payroll, department purchases, and resources necessary for the effective implementation of strategic initiatives.
  • Weekly -10%: Participates in various activities to continuously develop self-capacity for the leadership of Student Services at the Campus and the Pathways Learning Community.
  • Weekly -15%: Participates in college committees, councils and project teams to create effective partnerships to support Campus and Pathways Learning Communities goals and objectives.
  • Weekly -10%: Develops and maintains effective partnerships with area high schools, non-profit organizations, and community businesses.
  • Monthly -10%: Provides leadership and enforces policy and procedure interpretation for Student Services departments. Recommends improvements to policies and practices that support the college's mission, college wide goals and initiatives.
  • Semester Basis -5%: Represents the college and serves as a spokesperson for the College in various civic, community and professional organizations at the local, state and national level. Participates in speaking engagements to promote the mission and goals of the college and campus. Collaborates with the Marketing department and other College departments to effectively promote student services and the College.

  • Develop and administer several large departmental budget(s) and State/Federal grants in accordance with the Strategic Initiatives of the College.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the UFF Bargaining Agreement to ensure that contract provisions are met and considered in the planning and implementation of student success initiatives.
  • Responsible for the protection and safe-keeping of confidential data acquired through the service of students.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the due process and civil rights of students are preserved at all times.
  • Collaborate with Academic Affairs and Operations to develop an efficient Master Schedule that promotes student completion.
  • Conduct regular needs assessments of students and staff to inform planning and decision making.
  • Co-facilitate the development of a facility use plan.
  • Engage in life-long learning through the review of current literature and research; professional learning opportunities, and collaboration with peers across the state and nation.
  • Exemplary public speaking, presentation and communication skills.
  • Read, follow, interpret and enforce State Statutes, State Board Rule, and College Policies and Procedures as applicable.
