Summary

The section of Gastro is seeking a competent and reliable Registered Nurse I to support our clinicians providing services to patients. This position will assist in the care of patients under the direction of our team of physicians. The RN I position is expected to demonstrate clinical competence when providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, managing emergencies, and acting as a patient and family advocate in order to monitor and maintain patient rights. The Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting in the delivery of health care and patient care management. Candidate must possess a proactive, team-oriented attitude. Position should be able to perform nursing and administrative duties using the principles of team-based and patient-centered care, chronic care management models, and quality improvement. It is the responsibility of this position to contribute to a patient centric and customer focused environment where the needs of the patients come first.

Job Duties

Roles and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting nurse visits, rooming and discharging patients, taking vital signs, administering vaccines and medications, and assisting with in-clinic procedures.
    • Supervising medical assistant and LVN team
    • Handling day-to-day clinical operations and working alongside nurse supervisor for DoM and practice manager
  • Performing procedures as determined by the clinical needs of the department, including but not limited to intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, performing nebulizer and inhaler treatments, performing EKG's, administering and reading PPD's, removing sutures, performing ear lavage, dressing wounds, and performing other procedures that are within the scope of professional nursing practice.
  • Providing patient education related to topics such as patient self-care, taking medications appropriately, use of nebulizers and inhalers, diabetic education, wound care, and self-injections.
  • Performing and overseeing non-face to face activities, including answering patient phone calls, responding to patient messages, triaging patients, and scheduling patient visits.
  • Providing advice regarding treatment of certain minor acute problems and referring questions to the PCP or APN/PA as needed.
  • Providing on-going assistance to support staff, MA's and supervisors in areas such as proper and thorough message taking and emergency telephone protocols.
  • Maintaining awareness of clinic activity, supporting teamwork by offering assistance, and responding positively to requests for assistance.
  • Collaborating with team members, including staff, providers and administrators of primary and other departments, to foster healthy relationships in the work environment.
  • Providing and modifying care for complex patients using clinical judgement and evidence-based analytical approach.
  • Coordinating care with the interprofessional team based on evaluation of the patient's condition and supported by accurate documentation.
  • Monitoring clinic workflow and delegating tasks to the clinic staff as needed to meet patient, clinic, and provider needs.
  • Participating in departmental and college-wide quality improvement activities.
  • Maintaining Nursing License by the State of Texas Board of Nursing guidelines and Basic Life Support BLS certification as per the Baylor College of Medicine policy.
  • Participating in patient follow-up activities, including relaying diagnostic test results, arranging for prescription refills, facilitating referrals, performing prior authorizations, and preparing information for prescription renewals at the request of the PCP/APC.
  • Performing all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and
  • Performingother job duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • No experience required.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
