Job Description
Serve as the chief academic and administrative officer of the college. Plan, direct, and coordinate the operational, personnel, budgetary, fundraising, and student activities of the college; provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of curricula, academic programs, outside resource development, and all related activities; foster interdisciplinarity and promote open communication within and beyond the college; facilitate departments in achieving their goals within a unifying college vision; effectively represent the college and maintain a relationship with external constituents, including benefactors and alumni.
Ball State University seeks an innovative, collaborative, and future-focused scholar and practitioner to serve as the next dean of the College of Communication, Information, and Media (CCIM).
Reporting directly to Provost Anand R. Marri, the next dean will champion the college’s mission to develop ethical practitioners who stand to make a transformational impact in their fields and on society.
Ball State seeks a dean with a sophisticated understanding of the communications and media industries and the opportunities that exist at the intersection of communication and technology. Evidence of scholarly and/or professional achievements that merit a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of professor at Ball State is required. A terminal degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Minimum Education:
Terminal degree in relevant field.
Preferred Education:
Ph.D
Minimum Experience:
At least five years of academic experience in Communication, Information, or Media; experience delivering undergraduate and/or graduate curriculum; advanced academic administrative experience; experience in fiscal management.
Preferred Experience:
Senior-level administrative experience to provide leadership both inside the College and within the professional communities served by the College; demonstrated success generating external funding; experience in fiscal and facilities management and in fund raising; experience delivering both undergraduate and graduate curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in the development of excellence in teaching, scholarly productivity, and professional service among faculty and professional personnel.
- Engage in strategic planning for the college in accordance with the university's strategic plan.
- Evaluate academic curricula, activities, programs, and units within the college.
- Receive recommendations from academic units concerning the appointment of chairpersons/directors; then make recommendations to the Provost and President.
- Provide leadership and recommendations that lead to faculty appointment, promotion, tenure, and salary decisions.
- Act as fiscal agent for the college; allocate funds and resources in a manner designed to achieve excellence.
- Serve as the college's primary advocate to internal and external communities; collaborate with the internal and external constituencies that are related to the college's activities and programs.
- Provide leadership in working with the University Foundation, Community Engagement, Alumni Association, and Sponsored Projects Administration to secure external gifts, grants, and funding and technologies to support college programs.
- Support and encourage faculty inter- and intradisciplinary teaching, professional service, and scholarly productivity.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Inform leadership team and faculty of all matters affecting their effective performance; seek information regularly from units regarding their needs; evaluate periodically the proportional allocation of resources to units.
- Meet regularly with the Dean's Advisory Council.
- Full managerial responsibility for interviewing and selection, coaching, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal, training and career development of leadership team.
