Working under the general direction of the Department of Pathology / Laboratory Director and Phlebotomy Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing duties as delegated by the Director in compliance with CLIA Sect. 493.1445(a). The role involves receiving, processing, routing, and storing specimens from all areas of the hospital and providing support within the specimen processing area. As part of the Clinical Pathology team, the incumbent helps fulfill departmental objectives while delivering excellent patient care and maintaining compliance with safety and procedural standards.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Process patient orders for outpatient lab appointments, reviewing for accuracy, completing electronic order entry into LIS systems, and orienting patients to procedures.
  • Welcome and escort patients into the lab draw area, handle phone calls, and promptly transfer messages within the department.
  • Coordinate and collect non-blood specimens, transport them to the correct lab area, and retrieve specimens from the pneumatic tube system.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve department objectives and promote good employee relations.
  • Prioritize tasks, maintain adequate stock of supplies, and manage inventory for the work area.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in the work area, ensure logs are updated regularly, including maintenance and temperature logs.
  • Attend required meetings and training.

Your qualifications should include:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience:

  • Up to one year experience in a hospital laboratory setting preferred, working with clinical laboratory specimens and staff

Additional Information:

Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30AM-4:00PM

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $22.13 - $30.98 / hour
