Information Clerk serves as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and staff at Helford Clinical Research Hospital. This role is responsible for greeting callers and visitors, managing patient flow, and providing administrative support across departments. The successful candidate will handle multiple tasks, such as screening calls, processing patient check-ins, and maintaining an organized workspace, while ensuring a positive and professional image of the hospital. This role requires the ability to work in a busy hospital environment, interact with patients and families under potentially stressful situations, and handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Greet and direct callers and visitors, providing information and directions to hospital units.
  • Answer and route calls, screening for complexity and referring difficult inquiries to management.
  • Screen and badge visitors entering inpatient units.
  • Manage ambulatory care patient check-ins via EPIC, ensuring accurate records, consent forms, and delivery of patient materials.
  • Handle patient records (e.g., CDs) and ensure their safe return.
  • Coordinate communication between departments for incoming inpatients, surgery, and "Special Interest" patients.
  • Issue valet parking validations as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of computer systems to assist with patient flow and scheduling.
  • Process donations and handle patient mail.
  • Request patient transport services and assist with related needs.
  • Maintain department records, ensuring workspace is organized for shift transitions.
  • Respond to patient and family inquiries, serving as a liaison with hospital staff to facilitate care.
  • Project a positive service image and ensure timely communication.
  • Submit maintenance requests and coordinate with EVS for lobby upkeep.
  • Issue COH identification cards to patients.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems, particularly patient management software such as EPIC.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment is preferred.

Your qualifications should include:

  • High School or equivalent
  • Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
  • Six months in customer relations or related experience

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $21.32 - $25.95 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
