Job Description

Summary

This Research Technician II (RT-II) position in a growing lab will primarily entail assisting with the planningand execution of research experiments. The RT will have extensive direct interactions with the PrincipalInvestigator and have ample opportunity for learning and growth. Responsibilities that include but are not limited to managing mouse colonies (including genotyping as needed), conducting experiments, ordering supplies, interacting with other labs and core facilities, and assisting with IACUC protocols. The lab is new and currently growing, these responsibilities will shift to focusing on conducting laboratory experiments and generating data over time.

Job Duties

  • Conducts laboratory experiments with the appropriate degree of graded responsibility under the supervision of the PI.
  • Performs experiments in the laboratory thatincludes but are not limited to production and isolation of extracellular vesicles, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, tissue imaging, and mouse surgeries.
  • Performs animal colony maintenance and husbandry thatincludes genotyping or postoperative care when needed.
  • Conducts literature searches and summaries to aid in planning of laboratory experiments.
  • Interacts with core facilities for processing of tissue or other experimental samples.
  • Collects, analyzes, and summarizes experimental data into graphs and presentation format.
  • Assists with finding and ordering the capital equipment that is best suited for conducting the proposed research.
  • Assists in writing, submitting, and revising IACUC protocols with supervision from the PI.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Has generic laboratory skills (pipetting, sterile technique, safely using centrifuges and other commonly used equipment).
  • Be comfortable handling and working with mice, and has ability handlinganimal colonymaintenance.
  • Has the abilityto critically read thescientific literature, tissue culture skills.
