Job Description

Summary

This individual will be responsible for working on a multimodal project that includes assessments of cognitive, sensory, and everyday functions, as well as neuroimaging and specimen collection. The study population will include both active and former military service members. The position will entail contacting prospective participants, scheduling, screening, consenting, interviewing, administering and scoring psychological tests, operating assessment equipment (e.g., audiometer, eye tracking), data entry, assisting with the acquisition of magnetic resonance imaging data, processing of blood and saliva samples, preparation of basic reports, and participation in project conference calls and meetings. This individual is expected to complete several training modules in order to receive certifications.

The successful candidate will have exemplary communication abilities, both written and verbal, as well as exceptional organizational skills, the capacity for rapid learning, good empathy and active listening skills, patience, and flexibility.

Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine and Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) conducts state of the art research with active and former military service members.This position is located at MEDVAMC.

Job Duties

  • Recruitment and Screening: Identifying and enrolling eligible participants, conducting initial screenings, and ensuring informed consent is obtained.
  • Scheduling and Coordination: Arranging and managing appointments, coordinating with participants to ensure they meet study requirements, and maintaining a schedule for follow-up visits or interventions.
  • Data Collection and Management: Psychological test administration, gathering and recording data according to study protocols, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality, and managing participant records.
  • Participant Support: Providing ongoing support to participants, addressing their questions or concerns, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the study.
  • Compliance: Ensuring that all research activities comply with ethical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and study protocols, and reporting any adverse events or deviations.
  • Documentations: Maintaining detailed and accurate documentation of all interactions, procedures, and study-related activities for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Imaging data collection: Initial screening of study participants and communications with safety officer or technologist if needed, assisting during imaging session by maintaining study documentation, and data transfer.
  • Bio samples: Blood and samples processing (if needed). Bio samples shipment.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with research participants is highly desirable.
  • Experience with neuropsychological test administration.
  • Exemplary verbal communications and writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
