Summary

The Department of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine (Family and Community Medicine-BCM) is seeking a behavioral health Clinician-Researcher (FTE.8). In addition to joining an outstanding faculty dedicated to the care of Greater Houston's diverse populations, our faculty enjoy opportunities to participate in rewarding academic activities, including research and education.

The Clinician- Researcher faculty member will be an active member of the behavioral health and research team and department research division. Participates in the development of new grant proposals and in disseminating results from funded work. Develops and conducts scholarly research and publications. Provides professionals with training and technical assistance related to mental health and substance use disorder prevention and treatment.

This position will provide advanced counseling services to diverse populations, including individuals, couples, families, and groups. Administers diagnostic assessments in collecting behavioral data to appraise intelligence, memory, personality and other psychological functions to identify any mental health intervention needs and/or behavioral intervention needs. Develops intervention strategies and ensures the implementation of the strategies. Provides therapeutic modalities to support clients in overcoming mental, emotional, and psychosocial challenges independently or under clinical supervision.

Job Duties

Clinical

  • Coordinates the provision of patient care services related to such aspects as psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, counseling, emotional support, group work.
  • Works to promote optimum mental and emotional health.
  • Assess and diagnose clients' mental status through interviews and observations, and develops treatment plans or makes referrals to the appropriate services.
  • Provide crisis intervention services to clients who are a danger to themselves or others.
  • Contributes to client care by participating in clinical staff meetings to review client progress and treatment plans, and report caseload activities to supervisor.
  • Ensures documentation is entered into the electronic health record and deadlines for completion are met consistently.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulatory standards.

Research Job Duties

Research

  • Conducts research both independently and collaboratively.
  • Works collaboratively in developing grant proposals.
  • Works collaboratively in managing funded grant projects.
  • Conducts literature reviews.
  • Prepares scholarly articles, reports, and presentations.
  • Disseminates research results.
  • Develops and implements curricula.
  • Prepares and delivers training to other professionals.
  • Assist Chair in pursuing funded research and training proposals, and in grants management.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required: PhD in counseling/clinical psychology, PhD or Doctorate of Social Work (DSW); And must possess valid Texas licensure - LCSW, LPC, LMFT.
