What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Computer Aided Design and Drafting Technologist.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Providing printed circuit board (PCB) procurement support to the Electrical Computer Aided Design (ECAD) group and associated engineering groups.
  • Procure printed wiring assemblies (PWAs), printed wiring boards (PWBs), and flex cables from PCB manufacturers.
  • Maintaining a list of ECAD approved PCB suppliers and supplier contacts.
  • Assisting ECAD staff in preparing requests for quote (RFQs), submitting RFQs to PCB manufacturers, and placing orders.
  • Following up with ECAD staff, associated engineering staff, and manufacturers on orders placed, verifying delivery, and maintaining necessary records.
  • ECAD receiving activities in conformance with quality and safety requirements, implementing improvements, and ensuring accuracy of records.
  • Configuration management of ECAD Procurement records and transfer of files between ECAD and production agencies.
  • Working with the PCB Design, ECAD Library, and ECAD Infrastructure personnel in all phases of the PCB product realization process to identify and implement improvements to meet new or changing needs.

Salary Range:

$70,200 - $135,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technologist, Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or similar, or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant work experience.
  • Ability to read and understand PCB specifications, diagrams, bill of materials, and other related documentation.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Knowledge and experience with PCB design or manufacturing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external customers, including the ability to build and manage effective working relationships.
  • Knowledge of business administration procedures, techniques, and business ethics.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and analyze data and transactions for problem-solving purposes.

  • Knowledge of shipping practices, procedures, and record keeping requirements.
  • Knowledge of Sandia National Laboratories’ electricity-related policies, practices, and procedures.

About Our Team:

The Electrical Design Group is responsible for providing knowledgeable and capable resources to develop and create PCB and flex cable product definition in support of our nation’s security programs. We partner with engineering teams across the lab to produce innovative solutions. We communicate PCB and flex cable design options and recommended approaches to product development teams, stakeholders, and manufacturing partners. The department's primary capabilities include schematic capture and physical layout of PCBs and flex cables, interacting with vendors to procure quick turn prototype circuit boards, and design for manufacturing (DFM) and signal integrity analysis of PCB designs.
