Job Description

Summary

The Department of Medicine is seeking an experienced Business Operations Manager to serve as the Section Administrator to lead the administrative and financial operations of the Section of Hematology and Oncology. Additionally, the Business Operations Manager liaises with the administrative leadership of the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center (DLDCC) to align clinical and operational goals and strategies. This role is dynamic, fast paced, and critical to the long-term success of the Section and DLDCC.

This position may be eligible to work from home 1 day per week within the Greater Houston, TX area after an onboarding and training period.

Job Duties

Operational Leadership

  • Develops and directs short and long-term strategic business plans in alignment with overall Department and Section priorities.
  • Prepares business analyses, funding plans, and development proposals; implements plans for new programs; and designs and executes changes to existing programs.
  • Identifies opportunities for business and clinical process improvement and manages process improvement projects.
  • Develop plans for improving utilization of resources and maintaining practice efficiency while seeking to minimize operational costs.
  • Oversees the clinical portfolio including staffing plans, schedules, and productivity guidelines according to budget availability and section needs.
  • Drives continuous improvement in all domains and participates in Department-wide efforts.

Financial Management

  • Leads the management offiscal resources, and budget functions with overarching fiscal responsibility.
  • Provides financial management and accountability, including developing budgets, monitoring budget and expenditures, reconciling accounts, financial reporting, and ensuring federal and institutional accounting standards are met.
  • Understands grant and contract funding sources and how they impact funds flow, faculty effort, etc.
  • Manages faculty salary distribution on fund codes, effort, and the distribution of faculty total professional effort.
  • Oversees the review of monthly budget reports to satisfy requirements of sponsor agencies, institutions, and investigators for planning, budgeting, auditing, and oversight purposes.
  • Responsible for establishing and implementing quality assurance and quality control measures/oversight and ensuring adherence to college policies and regulatory standards.

People Management

  • Manage Section staff including developing staffing plans, defining work responsibilities and prioritization, setting performance and development plans, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
  • Establish staffing plans, effort, and productivity guidelines according to budget availability and business needs.
  • Leads professional development plans and initiatives.

Performs other job duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
