As a successful candidate, you will:

The Vice President position operates across the enterprise and provides strategic direction and program execution for an entire portfolio of large, complex clinical applications and services (critical business systems). Working under a conceptual framework with the CIO, develops programs and best practice capabilities driving complex development of work product across the applications organization. This position has responsibility for partnering with IT governance leadership predominately at the SVP and VP level in developing, prioritizing, and executing on projects and providing transparency into the work of IT that is conducted in support of the business line (ISC- Integrated Steering Committee business scope). The VP will work collaboratively with clinical and IT leaders to allow for ease of access to data, ensure integration of systems and provide a vision for the technology platforms of the future that will allow City of Hope to continue to innovate, grow, and provide quality clinical care for its patients. The Vice President demonstrates leadership acumen that is both thought provoking, curious, and very professional resulting in the development of advanced strategies with business and clinical leaders. This leader positions the enterprise systems for strategic initiatives, including growth and acquisitions as well as new clinical and business models. The role provides dynamic vision and direction to the team with clear line of site to the mission of City of Hope with a focus on employee development and retention.

Technology Governance

Partners with steering committee chairs in recommending and prioritizing initiatives aligned with strategic initiatives and fiscal control of allocated budgets, monitoring and reporting on progress, managing risks and issues, and reviewing project delivery to ensure requirements met.

Project Management and Delivery

Co-develops the strategic strategy of each ISC that is aligned with this vice president with the appropriate ISC chairs. Plans, designs, implements and monitors all necessary activities for the successful leadership of multiple complex, strategically aligned programs, projects and initiatives. Ensures projects are completed within time and budget requirements following the Project Management Office best practices. Accountable for timely and accurate documentation for performance reporting metrics (capacity and demand management, project documentation, etc.)

Customer Relationship and Business Knowledge

Serves as a thought leadership consultant to business leaders across the assigned domains and applications. Develops deep partnership and understanding of business or product line, works with customer leaders in solving business issues developing a relationship of trust and partnership with Physicians, Research, and Administrative staff and leadership.

Communication

Drives comprehensive communicates between physician and administration senior leadership and teams. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal/customer relationship skills; clear and concise verbal and written communications, excellent listening skills with empathy, and strong negotiation skills demonstrating capability to navigate and mediate conflict and foster constructive dialogue to solve problems.

Quality and/or Change Management

Leverages the automation and expertise of the Quality Center and Identifies opportunities to leverage clinical and business technology solutions to ensure patient safety and to enhance productivity throughout the organization. Assures all projects and services are fully tested to meet customer requirements and comply with legal and regulatory reporting set forth by CMS, Joint Commission, security, and others. Ensures team compliance with all departmental standards. Partners with the Learning team to ensure appropriate education and communication to foster adoption of new and enhanced capabilities. Builds a culture in which passion for continuous improvement and service excellence is inherent. Serves as catalyst to others in the organization to continually evaluate and take actions that are consistent with the City of Hope's overall vision.

Leadership

Drives a leadership acumen across the direct reports of cohesive team management. Effectively delegates the comprehensive labor efforts including; recruits, trains, motivates, evaluates and retains a staff of highly skilled information technology professionals. Leads teams to achieve goals, build capacity to develop and innovate, and creatively manage challenges and changes. Creates and maintains a teamwork environment conducive to productive output, successful staff advancement and a rewarding experience. Ensures the IT Clinical leadership team receives training, development, coaching, and motivation for effective performance and retention. Establishes and enforces departmental policies, procedures, and standards.

Budget and Fiscal Management

Partners with ISC chairs and finance professionals to effectively fund the application portfolio of demand and delivery and demonstrates accountability for development and execution of operating and capital budgets achieving expected results. Leverages vendors sourcing in optimizing workload needs, ensuring competitive bids to manage cost. Works with customers in ensuring prioritization of work within financial constraints and meeting expected project benefits (return on investment) where applicable.

Vendor and Technology Management

Develops business cases and proposals to obtain appropriate resources for various project initiatives. Participates in build/buy decisions and vendor product acquisitions. Collaborates to achieve proper integration across disciplines and to ensure appropriate technologies and support are in place. Responsible for managing vendor relationships, conformance to contract terms, and partnering on solving business problems and developing roadmap for the future. Stays up to date on the latest technology trends and news for optimal adoption and advancement of IT in the City of Hope.

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace Code of Conduct and Compliance Plan. Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related discipline and 15 years of experience in information technology with at least 10 years of experience at a management level

~OR~

  • High School diploma and 18 years of experience in information technology with at least 10 years of experience at a management level

Preferred Education: MBA or equivalent preferred.
