Position Summary

City of Hope is seekinga passionate and knowledgeable Outpatient Specialty Medicine Nurse specializing in Diabetes and Endocrine care to join our team. As a vital member of our outpatient clinic, you will play a key role in providing comprehensive nursing care, education, and support to patients with diabetes, thyroid disorders, hormonal imbalances, and other endocrine conditions. This opportunity is for full-time, 8-hour shifts (5 shifts per week), and is designated for the day shift (anticipated 8:30am start time).

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Patient Assessment and Management: Conduct thorough assessments of patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders, considering their cancer diagnosis and treatment plan. Develop individualized care plans tailored to each patient's specific needs, treatment goals, and cancer-related considerations.
  • Diabetes Education and Management: Provide extensive education to cancer patients and survivors on diabetes management, considering the impact of cancer treatment on blood glucose levels and metabolic control. Offer guidance on blood glucose monitoring, insulin administration, medication management, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes.
  • Endocrine Disorder Management: Assist cancer patients with thyroid disorders, adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, and other hormonal imbalances in understanding their condition and its interaction with cancer treatment. Collaborate with oncologists, endocrinologists, and other specialists to manage hormone levels, adjust medication dosages, and mitigate treatment-related complications.
  • Medication Administration and Monitoring: Administer medications for diabetes and endocrine disorders as prescribed by healthcare providers, ensuring safety and efficacy in the context of cancer treatment. Monitor patients for adverse reactions, side effects, and drug interactions, and provide appropriate interventions as needed.
  • Patient Advocacy and Coordination: Serve as a patient advocate, ensuring that cancer patients with diabetes and endocrine disorders receive comprehensive and coordinated care that addresses their holistic needs. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, including Oncologists, Nurses, Social Workers, and support staff, to facilitate communication, care coordination, and seamless transitions between healthcare settings.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes in electronic health records (EHR) and other clinical documentation systems. Communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, providing timely updates on patient status, treatment response, and any changes in the plan of care.
Your qualifications should include:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of three (3) years related nursing experience
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR Card

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $59.57 - $86.37 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
