NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Salary Range:

$109,300 - $185,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate\'s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Group 00150, Communications, has a rare opportunity for a creative person to inspire and set a vision for this national security laboratory’s brand as a Manager, Communication & Marketing.

The selected candidate will empower the work of roughly 40 creative employees and two team supervisors in Sandia’s Communications organization, in which they will join a six-member leadership team. A strong background in creative arts and experience managing creative people and their leaders is desired in this highly visible and successful department.

The successful candidate will be interested in supporting Sandia’s national security mission and have a curiosity about science and technology. They will be a people person who can motivate teams to deliver with excellence and continually innovate to meet varieties of communications needs for four generations of employees. Finally, they will be able to build and maintain positive relationships with peer managers, employees within the organization and those who serve throughout Sandia and top leaders.

On any given day, one may be called upon to:

  • Lead Creative Services in the planning, production and creation of a wide range of communication products for internal and external audiences that create an employee culture of engagement, carry a positive tone and are aligned with Sandia’s national security mission.
  • Manage Creative Services programs; develop project plans, budgets, processes, policies, schedules and staffing requirements and ensure teams have the needs to deliver with excellence.
  • Innovate to position Sandia effectively to deliver creative work through modern tools, resources and a variety of applications.
  • Ensure Creative Services products are completed to professional industry standards; staff members follow required review processes and coordinate work with the Communications Group.
  • Serve as an expert and resource to executives, management and staff across Sandia to help those understand the products Creative Services supports and prioritize the work of the department.
  • Build trusted partnerships with managers and staff across Sandia and within the center, including Media Relations, Internal Communications, Protocol, Strategy, Information Technology, Government Relations and other professional areas to facilitate consistent messaging, communications, branding and strategy.
  • Manage hiring, performance and professional development within the department.
  • Coordinate with all levels of management to deliver products which are strategically aligned to mission goals.
  • Counsel and assist employees and management on federal requirements, the U.S. Department of Energy contract and Sandia policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Develop metrics to inform strategy and tactics.
  • Support Sandia’s Emergency Public Information function as needed.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Qualifications We Require:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Film, Fine Arts, Design, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Technical Writing, Business, other Humanities or a relevant field; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • 8 years related experience.
  • 1 year experience managing people in a corporate environment.
  • The ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Candidates selected for interviews may be requested to provide portfolios that contain at least 3 professional-level videos, designs or writing samples.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • A Master’s degree Film, Fine Arts, Design, Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or Technical Writing.
  • The ability to bring the best in creative arts and multimedia storytelling in industry to a national laboratory.
  • 5 years demonstrated leadership experience managing people and managers.
  • Demonstrated experience with the following:
  • Film, television, print, broadcast or digital news media, large-scale event design and support or technical writing.
  • Leading teams to develop and complete projects in collaboration with multiple levels of management and staff in a fast-paced environment.
  • Showing familiarity and curiosity about science, technology, and/or national security.
  • Leading innovation and ensuring completion of long-term projects.
  • Change management.
  • Print services, including procurement and overseeing installation of large equipment and safety when using equipment.
  • The ability to translate and lead creative visions of a team to make those visions a reality.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of the Associated Press Stylebook or Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative software, motion graphics software such as Blender, After Effects, Cinema 4D and other tools that creative staff use to produce their work.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of how to capture, use and communicate metrics and value for data-driven decision-making.
  • The ability to model behaviors that reflect Sandia values, including belonging and providing opportunities for all, and behaviors of courage, connectedness and knowing purpose.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the importance of safety and security.

Security Clearance:
