What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer for the Switch Tube Product Realization team. The role will be complex, involving in-depth learning to design, develop, test, and characterize switch-tube test modules in support of switch tube product realization for national security missions. This job will involve hands-on work in a lab environment.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Learn from senior switch tube and test module designers
  • Design and drive product development of high voltage switch tubes
  • Design analog electrical circuits and capacitive discharge or pulse circuits
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering designers and material scientists involved in brazing and additive manufacturing
  • Collaborate with and direction of technologists’ work in a lab environment
  • Create product definition for switch tubes and electrical test modules
  • Document tube and test circuit performance against requirements
  • Simultaneously supervise and coordinate the creation to production process for multiple high voltage switches and test modules
  • Support ongoing production at an external vendor
  • Gather empirical evidence and use data mining and statistical tools to analyze, document and report on component characteristics and performance
  • Document switch tube and test module development in the form of general engineering and product realization reports.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$95,400 - $185,700

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate\'s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Advanced (Master’s or PhD) degree in Electrical Engineering; or a Bachelor\'s in Electrical Engineering plus 2 or more years of related engineering
  • Experience with electrical diagnostic equipment
  • Experience with circuit design software and simulation tools (e.g. PSpice, Micro-Cap, ORCAD, MultiSim) and board layout
  • Experience with high voltage pulse testing and troubleshooting
  • Programming and data manipulation skills (MATLAB, Python, VB, etc...)
  • Experience designing analog circuits on printed circuit boards
  • Experience defining electrical testing/inspection methods and interpreting results
  • Experience performing product design and development
  • Experience working with customers
  • Ability to design, analyze and troubleshoot analog circuits
  • Ability to prove-in product to customer requirements
  • Ability to work with a team.
  • Active DOE Q-clearance (or equivalent)

The Switch Tube team in Department 7581 provides customers with custom high voltage triggered vacuum switch designs for national security applications. These components are designed to meet demanding performance specifications, offer extremely high reliability, and meet stringent survivability requirements in adverse environments. Position Information:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia\'s discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
