As a successful candidate, you will:

The Business Analyst is responsible for driving the digital innovation and strategy research and analysis requirements for City of Hope. The individual will lead gathering data from key stakeholders via expert interviews, from surveys, and from market research. The Business Analyst will be responsible for aggregating and analyzing data from multiples sources and working with Excel and other business modeling platforms and summarizing in thoughtful and engaging PowerPoint and multimedia presentations.

The Business Analyst will analyze digital and innovation business needs, define requirements, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver digital products, solutions and experiences. The individual will perform and manage complex data analysis to determine digital opportunities that address the strategic needs of City of Hope. The Business Analyst will have a strong background in business analysis, possess a deep knowledge of the healthcare industry, with experience on provider-side care delivery and expertise in leveraging digital to improve patient outcomes and streamline clinical care and operations.

Business Analysis

  • Analyze data from multiple sources, including, but not limited to: EHR data, research data, imaging data, user-generated data, wearable data, financial data, and patient satisfaction data. Extract key insights and inform decision making related to digital innovation projects, products, and solutions along the product lifecycle (business planning, design, development, testing and evaluation).
  • Create and maintain repository of organizational and tactical objectives; develop process documentation, department metrics, dashboards and key performance indicators.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources; reconcile conflicts; decompose high-level information into details; abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding; and distinguish user requests from underlying true needs.
  • Maintain in-depth understanding of stakeholder’s business and program needs, which will allow for proactively offering business process improvements and solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Elicit digital product and solution requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use case development, journey maps, business analysis, tasks and workflow analysis.
  • Present analysis in user-friendly dashboards, documents, multi-media presentations and other innovative storytelling mechanisms to support leaders in understanding digital value and ROI.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including clinicians, patients, researchers and business leaders to understand business objectives, challenges and requirements for digital initiatives. Conduct stakeholder interviews and leverage key data to analyze and create documents with actionable requirements.
  • Develop business process analysis tools to review existing health system workflows, processes, gaps and opportunities for optimization. Create process maps, user stories, workflow diagrams and charts to demonstrate digital opportunities and drive value.
  • Develops and maintains methodology documents for standardizing procedures and processes used for team projects.
  • Interprets business needs and translates them into system requirements.
  • Writes business specifications and forwards to digital team members for design and solution development.
  • Provides business expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing solutions that are cost effective and meet user requirements.

Data Analysis & Management

  • Project manage aspects of individual projects and/or deliverables e.g., solution analysis, user experience metrics, information architecture and content strategy development. Other focus areas include front and back-end development, technical implementation of collated/collected data sets, testing and quality assurance. Serve as a point-of-contact to stakeholders across City of Hope for related work.
  • Act as a liaison with stakeholders and project team members regarding iterative changes to data sets/dashboards that also include project management of changes to scope and delivery dates, developing a cadence of providing regular reports and dashboards to leadership.
  • Establish relationships with stakeholders to create proposals and project requirements via data, to support business proposals, scoping documents, ensuring proper programming of expectations (e.g., data implementation and analytics around project/program/product goals, scope, participant responsibilities) and timely management of deliverables and stakeholder management.
  • Support development of detailed project work plans, timelines and potential budget support. Maintain project assignments, monitor workloads, and resources to meet project deadlines and requirements. Frequently reassess project scope to ensure for data accuracy and consider constant change in data sets.
  • Ability to established a plan and budget.
  • Takes the lead in maintaining and improving process automation through system enhancements. Recommends technology solutions through research and analysis of data and business processes. Present analysis and interpretation for operational and business review and planning.
  • Stay current with industry trends and IT solutions.
  • Analyze, review, forecast, and trend big and complex data sets. Performs ad hoc analyses, including prospective modeling and retrospective trending. Able to develop data plans, data request, data acquisition, data cleansing, and perform analytics. Acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources. Work with departmental leaders to outline the specific data needs for each functional unit. Assists management in preparing reports, charts and presentations. Prepares special documents, reports and related materials for staff and executive management meetings as required.

Technical Aptitude

  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, solution architects and developers to translate business requirements into innovative digital solutions.
  • Support User Experience (UX) design and partner with design leaders to create intuitive, user-centered interfaces that enhance the digital care, clinical, research and business experience.
  • Actively participate in design, development and testing of products and solution lifecycles including development of wireframes, prototypes and user-testing.
  • Produces business design document based on product and solution requirements.
  • Lead the technical analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and post-implementation support and evaluation of digital solutions and products.
  • Support Quality Assurance (QA) Testing by developing test plans, test cases and acceptance criteria to validate digital solutions against business requirements and regulatory standards. Participate in QA testing activities, identify defects, and collaborate with teams to ensure timely resolution and delivery of high-quality products and solutions.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; 4 additional years of experience plus the minimum experience requirement may substitute for minimum education.
  • 3+ years of business analysis or healthcare consulting experience. 5+ years of project management/improvement or consulting experience.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $34.64 - $53.70 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
