Job Summary

Serves as the face of the department to students, providing individual assistance to students seeking a study abroad experience. Has intimate knowledge of all faculty-led courses and the development of exchange and affiliate programs. Provides students with the tools necessary to make informed decisions about studying abroad. Oversees the individual/independent student traveler program. Collaborates with Student Affairs in the development and coordination of the annual AU International Education Week programming, which includes campus-wide international festivals and major international speakers. Works closely with other study abroad staff members to develop student recruitment, plan and host recruitment and orientation events, liaise with study abroad alumni, and maintain partnerships with exchange partner institutions and third-party providers. Serves as the designee of the Director of Study Abroad/Away for AU in his/her absence.

Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to:

ADVISING: Meet with prospective study abroad/away students. Have knowledge of all study abroad/away programs. Advise students on private or departmental fundraising opportunities for study abroad/away. Advise students of scholarship activities both on and off campus in study abroad/away and assist with application and award process. Advise students on the unique nature and requirements of study abroad/away (passport, visas, airport, culture shock, academics). Meet with all students who seek to sign up for study abroad/away programs as part of their mandatory planning meeting. Assist with developing course lists for the registrar, handle permissions for course registration and verify all students are registered for courses associated with their programs. Oversee 'Individual Student Travel' (about 100 students each year), handle initial contact and continued contact to ensure all documentation is complete before a student travels.

TRAINING AND SERVICE: Advise the Global Ambassadors (study abroad alumni)- recruit, train, and manage volunteers at various meetings and events. Promote and assist with student conference registrations and chaperone groups who participate in activities like the Georgia International Leadership Conference or the Lessons from Abroad Returnee Conference. Serve on the Institutional Study Abroad Committee ('SAC) and other committees/subcommittees as assigned. Assist in the supervision and training of student assistants. Serves as liaison for external constituencies, including international partners, third-party study abroad providers, and vendors associated with each program. Other clerical duties as needed to maintain the office.

RISK MANAGEMENT: Assists faculty leading programs to countries with travel warnings or safety concerns with adhering to and maintaining compliance with related university policies and protocol. Works with faculty leading study abroad programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university policies, procedures, and requirements related to Study Abroad/Away. Develops, with the Director of Study Abroad, protocols, and procedures appropriate for study abroad programs to supplement existing university policies and procedures. Maintains communication with students who are abroad and if appropriate provide re-entry support and services. Be available for emergencies arising abroad or away to follow emergency procedures from the US side of operations as needed and in the absence of the director.

MARKETING: Market study abroad/away programs to all perspective and current students this includes AU faculty-led and USG Goes Global opportunities. Promote study abroad/away through classroom presentations, courses, summer orientation, campus events, admissions programs, and other requests as needed. Advertise and create marketing materials for all study abroad programs (online through web and brochures). Oversee, manage, and post on all social media for the Study Abroad Office in collaboration with student assistants.

EVENT PLANNING: Collaborate with Student Affairs in the development and coordination of the annual AU International Education Week programming including campus-wide international festival and major international speakers. Assists with the development and planning of the annual study abroad fairs with the Director. Coordinate and present pre-departure orientations for all participants. Collaborate with other student offices, such as disabilities, testing, student affairs, financial aid, career services, honors, multicultural student affairs, and undergraduate research. advising, etc.

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT: Maintain and regularly update the Study Abroad website. Coordinate the registration of the study broad/away students and program development through the Terra Dotta online platform to ensure all applications are complete prior to travel.

OTHER DUTIES: Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and 2 years of applicable experience in higher education and/or international studies

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in college student development, international education, or a related field, one to three (1-3) years of experience working with college students, and either international travel, working abroad, foreign language expertise, or international education.

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Depth of understanding of study abroad and how to communicate it across a broad range of people.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday-Friday (work outside of normal working hours may be required)

Pay Band: B6

Salary: $39,200/annually - $44,000/annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
