Position Description
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Student Affairs Coordinator joins a dynamic team that provides support to approximately 700 PhD students in the six Division of Medical Sciences (DMS) programs. DMS aims to educate, mentor, and inspire a diverse community of students in the biomedical sciences to become the next generation of leaders and innovators who will advance knowledge and address the emerging challenges of health and human welfare.

Job responsibilities include:

Student Groups and Events
  • Provides administration and leadership to student groups and organizations.
  • Works closely with BGSO student group and GSAS Student Center Fellows to plan community events for DMS students.
  • Assists with planning commencement and orientation activities, and supports special projects and events throughout the year.

Alumni Relations
  • In collaboration with the Student and Alumni Engagement Administrator, works with 4,000 DMS alumni to create opportunities for networking, career exploration and internship experiences for current students.
  • Maintains the alumni outcomes database.
  • Plans and executes alumni events. Contributes to an alumni newsletter and alumni webpage. Serves as a resource and point of contact for DMS alumni.

Fellowships
  • Contributes to management of supplementary financial benefits/opportunities for students and internal fellowships, including but not limited to the DMS childcare scholarship, various fellowship application cycles, and the GSAS professional development fund.
  • Administers the Ryan Fellowship and plans the retreat.
  • Collaborates with DMS Finance team to allocate gift funds appropriately to students.

Neuroscience Program Support
  • Will work in close collaboration and partnership with the Program in Neuroscience (PiN) Administrator to develop initiatives that support that enhance the PiN student experience.
  • Assists with monitoring the academic progress of PiN students and plans PiN events including orientation, student retreat and admissions.

Student Affairs Coordination
  • Contributes to other student affairs related projects and initiatives including but not limited to responding to prospective student inquires and maintaining faculty and student records.
Basic Qualifications
Three or more years related experience required. Higher education may count towards years of experience.
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • College degree strongly preferred.
  • Experience with higher education administration preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Prior event management experience a plus.
  • Keen attention to detail and strong critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe suite.
