Job Description

The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Materials Group at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a Visiting Scholar to participate in a collaborative project. The project is dedicated to the accelerated discovery of high-performance cathode and anode catalysts for fuel cells and carbon dioxide electrolyzers utilizing high-throughput synthesis and characterization techniques. This position involves: i) Synthesizing new catalysts, ii) Evaluating catalyst performance using aqueous electrochemical combinatorial techniques, and iii) Integrating catalysts into low-temperature fuel cells and electrolyzers to achieve device-level performance evaluation using single-cell.

Position Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of electrochemistry and metal oxide electrocatalysts

• Extensive knowledge of polymer electrolyte fuel cell electrocatalyst and electrode characterization.

• Extensive knowledge of aqueous electrochemical techniques

• Knowledge of inorganic and nanomaterials synthesis and crystal structure analysis and fitting using XRD Rietveld analysis

• Experience in X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), X-ray scattering (SAXS & WAXS), and X-ray nano-CT characterization of materials are beneficial

• Experience in impedance spectroscopy is beneficial

• Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work as part of a collaborative multi-institutional team are required

• Ability to work as a contributing team player in an intense and results-oriented project

• This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemistry, materials science, mechanical or chemical engineering, or physics at the Ph.D. degree level with 0-3 years of experience or equivalent in practical laboratory experience in the areas described in the job description.
