Position Description
The Mental Health for All Lab promotes the generation of knowledge and its effective utilization with the goal of contributing to the reduction of the global burden of suffering of mental health problems. The lab is led by DGHSM faculty members, Vikram Patel and John Naslund. This position reports to both directors. The responsibilities of this leadership position are broad, spanning multiple time zones and working with multiple organizations.

Program Management
  • Oversees the implementation of day-to-day lab activities, including the achievement of key project milestones, meeting requirements for project funders, and anticipating potential challenges and pro-actively proposing solutions.
  • Manage administrative activities, processes, and workflows.
  • Lead and implement strategic plans for writing and funding proposals for the lab
  • Oversees the development and implementation of procedures for onboarding and training new staff and overall administrative systems to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Oversight of reporting to donors, in relation to gifts.
  • Liaise with related programs, collaborators, Centers, and organizations across the Harvard network, throughout the US, and globally.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies across the various lab activities.

Research
  • Oversees the initiation of new research projects, including supporting lab research fellows and staff with carrying out the day-to-day project activities.
  • Provides ongoing oversight to lab research fellows and staff with the development of regulatory documents, research protocols, and standard operating procedures, and adhering to project timelines and associated milestones.
  • Oversees the preparation of progress reports and project summaries for submission to funders.
  • Liaise with project collaborators to compile updates for inclusion in study progress reports.

Supervision
  • Responsible for direct supervision of 8 lab staff members including research assistants and project coordinators.
  • Responsible for recruitment, hiring, and onboarding staff, students, and post-docs of the various programs and research projects in the lab.
  • Provide training to lab staff to advance knowledge of project management, methods, systems, and lab-specific research protocols and best practices.

Financial Management
  • Oversight of lab budgets, across projects, to ensure appropriate allocations for human resource and other expenses, and keep lab directors abreast of changes or remaining/unspent funds.
  • Liaise with the finance department to manage pre-award and post-award activities, generate budget projections, and manage resource allocation across various project activities.
  • Lead weekly meetings with the department finance team to manage project budgets and expenses, ensure compliance with funder policies and requirements, and support the preparation of financial reports and progress summaries for submission to funding agencies and donors as required.

Communications
  • Responsible for high volume of emails pertaining to program needs and inquiries related to lab projects and partnerships.
  • Oversight of lab staff to support communications, including website, social media and newsletters as well as the planning and execution of World Mental Health Day.
  • Collaborate with lab staff to facilitate communication with key partners and collaborators of the lab projects.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Master’s degree in Public Health preferred.
  • 7+ years of work experience in Grants Management and Financial Experience preferred
  • Project Management skills with the ability to function independently.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written cross-cultural communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to Travel

This is a two-year term appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.
