The System Director, Hospital Compliance will be responsible for planning, oversight, and coordination of the hospital compliance program across the City of Hope national system (“System”). In addition to a deep and strong background in applicable hospital compliance program requirements, the System Director, Hospital Compliance is an influential leader, serving as a trusted advisor to other leaders across the System on hospital compliance and revenue cycle compliance issues for provider-based sites. This position sits within the Healthcare Regulatory and Reimbursement Compliance vertical of the Ethics & Compliance program, and reports to the VP, Healthcare Regulatory and Reimbursement Compliance.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • HOSPITAL COMPLIANCE PROGRAM
    Responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and overseeing the operations of a System-wide hospital compliance program to enable consistent, effective practices to comply with federal and state laws and regulations applicable to healthcare organizations.
  • Oversees the System hospital compliance program. Develops, maintains, monitors, and revises applicable policies, procedures and practices related to hospital and provider-based compliance activities.
  • Oversees the investigation into and resolution of hospital compliance issues across the System. This includes oversight of the evaluation of issues, the conducting of thorough and timely investigations, the implementation of sufficient resolution and mitigation steps, and the documentation of such.
  • Directs the creation, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of system-wide educational programs to ensure that providers and workforce members at hospital and provider-based sites receive necessary training and education on regulatory and compliance principles and COH policies relevant to their roles and licenses.
  • Conducts hospital and provider-based compliance risk assessments to address risk areas and develops compliance work plans, audits, and projects to ensure an effective, efficient, and objective approach for evaluating and improving activities across the System.
  • Reviews contracts and agreements, as applicable and in coordination with legal counsel, to evaluate compliance implications and provide guidance and strategic recommendations.

AUDITING AND MONITORING

  • Develops, implements, and maintains a robust System-wide hospital compliance auditing program.
  • Directs system-wide responses to government, external and internal audits.
  • Engages and oversees the performance of external auditors in the performance of hospital billing compliance audits.

REGULATORY OVERSIGHT

  • Maintain up-to-date expertise of relevant laws, rules and regulations related to hospital compliance and provider-based locations.
  • Stays abreast of developments and trends in laws, regulations, and risks applicable to hospital compliance and provider-based locations. Monitors trends in laws, regulations and risks and revises or creates new standards and policies/procedures and training/education to ensure continued compliance or to address potential issues.

OPERATIONS AND LEADERSHIP

  • Builds a high performing Hospital Compliance team. Manages performance to ensure long term professional development.
  • Prioritizes matters for team and provides clear directions and support to direct and, when appropriate, indirect reports.
  • Develops key performance metrics for the hospital compliance program; presents reports to all levels of leadership in support of program effectiveness.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, or a related field
  • Seven (7) years of relevant health care compliance experience, with progressive responsibility and at least five (5) years in a manager/leadership role
  • Compliance certification (Certified in Health Care Compliance)
  • Juris Doctor or Master’s degree in law, business, healthcare, or a compliance related field preferred.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $76.77 - $128.21 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
