JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Department of Environmental Sciences at Tennessee State University invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Soil Physics. The incumbent will be a member of an outstanding faculty in Agricultural Sciences that is actively engaged in scholarly activities of teaching, research and extension. The position will have research responsibilities with teaching graduate and undergraduate courses as needed.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: (1) Developing a research program relevant to Land Grant mission of Tennessee State University focusing on Soil Physics, Soil and Water Sciences and Conservation, or related disciplines, (2) Apply both experimental and modeling approaches to conduct research in candidate’s areas of expertise, (3) Building an interdisciplinary collaborations with departmental and College of Agriculture faculty in the areas of but not limited to irrigation engineering, hydrogeology, climate change, environmental fate of pollutants, nutrient cycling, and related fields, (4) Writing grants and/or collaborating with Departmental and External faculty members to secure extramural funding, (5) Teaching Introductory Soil Science (undergraduate) course and graduate level course with candidate’s areas of Expertise (Soil Physics, Spatial Variability in Soils, Soil and Water Science or related), (6) Mentoring undergraduates and advising graduate students, (7) Participate in Departmental, College, and University services as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should be in possession of a Ph.D. in Soil Physics or related field. The successful candidate will conduct research on soil physics and vadose zone hydrological processes that address local, regional, and national issues in agricultural and environmental sciences, including but not limited to environmental remediation, soil health, and carbon storage in soils. Potential for establishing a strong record of extramural grant awards, publication in refereed journals, and teaching is required. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills are essential.
