Job Summary

The Associate Network Engineer's role is to ensure the stability and integrity of in-house data, video, voice, and wireless network services. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) across the organization. In addition, the position will participate with the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all network hardware, software, and communication links. This individual will also analyze and resolve network hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user training where required.

Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT: Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes. Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed. Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end-user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices. Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances. Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information. Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports. Participate in managing all network security solutions.

ABREAST OF DEVELOPMENTS: Deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware. Support firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, and remote-access VPNs Conduct research on network products, services protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments In the networking Industry.

STRATEGY & PLANNING: Work with senior engineers to assess near- and long-term network capacity needs. Create and maintain documentation related to network configuration, network mapping, processes, and service records. Implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network administration, usage and disaster recovery.

OTHER: Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline and one year of relevant work experience.
OR
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent from a State or Federal accrediting organization and one year of experience with a certification from the following: CCNA, CCST, CCNP, CCIE

Preferred Qualifications

Industry-related experience as a Networx Engineer

Understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)

Familiarity with access control models and network security

Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS)

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

KNOWLEDGE

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases

Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation

Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.

Expert knowledge of core routing and switching design principles, best practices, and related technologies

Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including routers, switches (layer 2/3), firewalls, and remote access. DNS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN, QoS, DSL, Frame relay, and Metro Ethernet

Extensive application support experience with network monitoring and analysis software

Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.

SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Detail-oriented with strong organizational and customer service skills

Sharp troubleshooting skills

Organizational and mentoring skills.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Monday-Friday

Pay Grade: 14

Salary: $17.40 - $23.24/ hourly

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
