This position will assist in maintaining the kitchens and laboratories in the Culinary areas and support lab activities in the Hospitality Programs. Its responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clean kitchens and work areas.

  • Fill requisitions for food and equipment requested by instructors.

  • Store food and supplies in assigned warehousing and/or cold storage areas.

  • Operate various types of powered kitchen equipment according to established health and safety procedures.

  • Supervise part-time kitchen workers.

  • Practice of health and sanitation as it pertains to the food service industry.

  • Able to work on feet 90%-95% per shift.

  • Able to work with potential allergens including, but not limited to: latex, nuts, fish/shellfish, eggs, milk, wheat and cleaning chemicals.

  • Able to distinguish between odors, and shades of color.

  • Functionally communicate occupational-based English, both written and verbal.

  • Worker must obtain at own expense, and keep updated, a SNHD Food Handler Safety Training Card.

  • Must be able to lift and/or carry materials weighing up to 60 pounds and, occasionally, with assistance, heavier items.

The work environment potential conditions include:

  • Primarily indoor and some outdoor.

  • Extreme hot and cold temperatures, including humidity.

  • Slippery surfaces.

  • Exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes and/or gases.

  • Exposure to possible food allergens.

Required Qualifications

  • One year of experience in quantity food preparation and service OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • 6 months minimum of accredited, post-secondary culinary school or current enrollment.

  • 1 year cooking in a commercial dining establishment.

OTHER ASSOCIATED FACTORS:

  • Position requires reliable and consistent attendance.

  • Work may require standing, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, and kneeling for extended periods.

  • Assist kitchen manager with other related duties as necessary for operations.

Weekly Schedule

Hours of operation vary between 6:00 am -11:00 pm, 7 days a week and depending on the school year.

Must be available to work days, nights and weekends.

Starting Salary

Grade 20, Step 1 $ 32,614.56

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initial appointments for classified positions typically begin at Step 1.
