Job Description

Summary

The Senior Patient Affairs Specialist verifies coverage, benefits and obtains insurance prior authorization requirements for specialty office visits such as psychiatry, bariatric and nutrition. Provides great customer service during interaction with patients, providers, Baylor staff, insurance companies and anyone else while performing all job duties.

 

The ideal candidate must be able to prioritize workload in order to meet productivity standards.

Job Duties

  • Financially clears patients for upcoming services.
  • Verifies coverage and benefits for upcoming services.
  • Contacts and follows up with non-Baylor PCP offices to obtain insurance referral approvals.
  • Obtains insurance referral approvals on behalf of Baylor PCP's.
  • Creates estimates and collects patient out of pocket prior to services being rendered.
  • Answers Insurance Verification Helpline and resolves insurance inquiries from patients, physicians, and departments.
  • Investigates patient insurance coverage and demographic issues.
  • Performs authorization follow up. 
  • Accurately documents all work efforts in patient's chart.
  • Responds to specific account inquiries by management.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Assists with STAT verification requests in a timely matter.
  • Understands high-level multi-specialty services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Epic experience.
  • Authorization submission and follow up experience.
