Job Description

Argonne’s Center for Energy, Environmental and Economic Systems Analysis (CEEESA), in the Energy Systems and Infrastructure Analysis (ESIA) division, is looking for a candidate to develop and maintain web-based applications that seamlessly integrate with our internal machine learning models and optimization tools, making them more accessible to the public. The applicant will leverage their expertise in web technologies (Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and Node.js) to build interactive and user-friendly web applications that support our group’s data visualization and analysis needs. The candidate should have both strong problem solving and communication abilities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Design and implement interactive, user-friendly web-based applications that seamlessly integrate with internal machine learning models and optimization tools, making them accessible to non-technical audiences.

  • Utilize a diverse technology stack including Python for machine learning integration; JavaScript, TypeScript and Node.js for front-end and back-end development, HTML and CSS for structuring and styling web pages.

  • Integrate data visualization libraries (e.g. D3.js) and GIS libraries (e.g. MapLibre) for advanced spatial data visualization.

  • Write clean, efficient and maintainable code, adhering to best coding practices.

  • Communicate project progress and technical details effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Position Requirements

  • Master’s degree in computer science, engineering or related fields.

  • Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, HTML, CSS, Node.js and Amazon Web Services.

  • Experience with modern front-end development frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, Vue.js).

  • Experience developing full-stack web applications and implementing RESTful APIs.

  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Coding, debugging and testing skills.

  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
